Men's Volleyball Take their Team to the Max with Another Anderson

The CMU Men's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Max Anderson for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Dakota Collegiate and WinMan Volleyball Club product joins his brother on what looks to be a young and talent-laden squad for the upcoming year.

Coming out of the perennial contender program at Dakota Collegiate, Anderson's Lancers team were finalists at the MHSAA "AAAA" Provincial Championships this past high school season after coming out on top the the SCAC zone to earn their spot at the major tournament. Anderson was named the Dakota Collegiate Athlete of the Month following their championship run, and also earned himself a Provincials All-Star selection and Graduating All-Star honours following the season. The team also medalled at the DMCI and MBCI tournaments in the city, took home a title at the Leboldus High tournament in Regina during the season, and developed a great rivalry with nearby Glenlawn Collegiate, where Anderson regularly matched up against fellow Blazers signing Adrian Deer. The Lancers and the Lions were neck-and-neck in most of their tournament and league finishes, entering the provincials as the second and third seeds respectively, but it was Anderson's Dakota side that punched their ticket to the finals in an epic semi-final battle.

Blazers MVB Bring the Heat with Addition of Spicer

The CMU Men's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Austin Spicer for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Sanford Collegiate and 204 Volleyball Club product could be a diamond in the rough out of rural Manitoba as he is just beginning to tap his potential on the hardcourt.

Known more for his hits on the ice than on the volleyball court, Spicer suited up for his Sanford Collegiate Sabres hockey, basketball, badminton, and beach volleyball teams in addition to their volleyball squad, and also for the MacDonald Yankees in AA baseball in the summer. The multisport athlete captained his high school volleyball team, where he played both left side and middle, but has gained more personal accolades through his high school and club hockey career. He has been part of the Sabres hockey leadership core for some time, and was selected to the Winnipeg High School Hockey League All-Star game as Sanford's leading scorer and MVP. Sanford's Athlete of the year in 2022, Spicer hopes to repeat in 2024 as he finishes up his high school studies and looks ahead to college, aided by the Travis Price Award, a scholarship he received through the WHSHL.

Blazers MBB Make their First Offseason Move Signing Point Guard Tugade

The CMU Men's Basketball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Caden Tugade for the 2024-25 MCAC and NIAC seasons. The Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and Crossover Basketball product will look to be an impact playmaker on the point for the Blazers this upcoming year.

Following in the footsteps of recently graduated shooting guard Binh Nguyen, as well as standout rookie from last season Lance Catipon, Tugade is making the jump from Daniel McIntyre to the Blazers for his first year of college eligibility. Playing in the Winnipeg Tier 1 zone of the MHSAA "AAAA" division, Tugade's Maroons had a number of tournament finals appearances en route to a Provincial Championships berth. A finals appearance in their first tournament of the year in Brandon was followed by another second-place finish in their own DMCI tournament, and then the team brought it all together to win the Centurion Shootout at Fort Richmond Collegiate in late January. The Maroons also medalled at St Paul's High School at the Nick Laping Memorial, where Tugade was recognized as a player of the game and defensive player of the game in the same tournament. A captain on the squad since his grade ten season, Tugade helped DMCI past the Miles Mac Buckeyes in this year's high school provincial championships, but saw their run end in the elite eight stage. He was named a zone All-Star for Winnipeg Tier 1, as well as a "AAAA" Graduating All-Star following the team's championship run in March. A multi-sport athlete, Tugade also competes for his high school in Badminton, ultimate, and volleyball, as well as in Football Manitoba's flag football league.

Blazers Ink Stud Centreback Saka to Men's Soccer Squad

The CMU Men's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Ryan Saka for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Kampala, Uganda native is hoping to get down to business and be a big presence on the Blazers back line for the upcoming campaign.

A graduate of Kelvin High School in 2022, Saka featured on his Clippers side for his senior year, winning the Winnipeg #1 zone and earning a spot at MHSAA "AAAA" Provincial Championships. Although the team lost its quarter-final matchup to the hosts J.H. Bruns Broncos, the Clippers recoverd and won out, winning the consolation side of the bracket. Prior to his final varsity season, Saka played on the Kelvin basketball team, where he used his athletic six-foot frame on the hardcourt.

Blazers WVB Get Set for the Season with Latest Signing

The CMU Women's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Abigail Jeffrey for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The tall and talented St Paul's Collegiate and Winman Club product will look to be a factor in distributing the ball to the Blazers' offensive options this upcoming season.

A member of the varsity girls team at St Paul's Collegiate in Elie, Manitoba since her grade ten season, Jeffrey captained her team to an MHSAA "AA" Provincial Championships berth in her final season with the Barons, upsetting the Landmark 96ers to claim the final spot in the top tournament. It was at the provincials that Jeffrey really put herself on the map, earning herself player of the game honours in two of the team's matches, leading to a selection as the Players Choice Award at the conclusion of the tournament. The team's setter was also named to the MHSAA All-Manitoba Team, selected from the top student-athletes from "A" to "AAA" schools from across the province.
