Blazers Women's Soccer Kickoff New Era Under Head Coach Peter Marinelli
CMU Women's Soccer is set to kickoff a new era for the Blazers under new head coach Peter Marinelli as the team looks to keep building in the program's 25th season. The Blazers last captured an MCAC Championship in 2018, when the program took home the 2018 Women's Futsal title in the spring, and then the 2018 Women's Soccer title the following fall.
Marinelli joins the Blazers following a very successful playing career locally as a youth and senior player in the province, with several stints representing Manitoba at national championships, Western Canada Games, and as a regular in the provincial team program. He also comes to CMU having coached at relatively every level in Manitoba and even beyond our province. Peter holds his CSA National B License and currently is working with the WSA Senior Men in the MMSL Premier League, Scorpions FC in Divison 2, and Prairie Green FC in the Winnipeg Women's Soccer League (WWSL) Division 2.
Previous to these coaching roles, Peter founded a soccer academy program as part of the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Maniotoba (IRCOM) in Winnipeg in 2017 and has coached at FC Northwest, WSEU, Portage Trails, St. Charles as well as with the MSA Provincial team program over a five-year span from 2010-2015.
Blazers Director of Athletics Russell Willms is excited about adding Marinelli to the CMU coaching roster, stating "Peter brings a wealth of experience to the program, leading teams at the club and provincial level, and we're confident that he will keep us moving in a good direction." With so many connections locally from the high school, club, and provincial level, Marinelli is expected to be able to draw players from across the province to play for the Blazers in coming seasons.
As the team awaits the MCAC schedule to be officially released in the coming weeks, Marinelli will begin training with his new team very soon in preparation for the 25th anniversary season for CMU and the Blazers programs.
