Blazers Women's Soccer Look to Find Their Footing

Opening weekend of the MCAC 2021-22 soccer season has come and gone, and it has left a bad taste in the mouths of the Blazers women's soccer squad who now have their work cut out for them if they want to climb the standings and stand among the leagues top teams come October.

The Blazers started their campaign on the road in Otterburne facing the Providence Pilots on Saturday. What appeared to be a solid start for the rookie-heavy team entering the second half down 0-1 to the home side soon turned into a second half nightmare as the Pilots went on to net an additional four markers to take the match 5-0. Ayesha Umar, a new addition to the Blazers side led the team with three of CMU's eight total shots on goal, but none managed to find the back of the net.

MCAC Gains Entry to National Championships

It's official! The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) was unanimously voted to be included in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championships for the 2021-22 seasons and moving forward in the sports of women's and men's soccer, as well as women's and men's volleyball.  The vote occurred at the national governing body's annual general meeting this past week.

Charleswood Soccer Product Kicks Into The MCAC With CMU

West-Winnipeg will be well represented in the CMU Blazers 2021 roster. Co-head coaches Lianna Bestvater and Cara Isaak announced the commitment of Oak Park High School and Charleswood Youth Soccer product, Jayce Boyson early this week. Boyson joins a growing list of players from the St. James, Charleswood, Lindenwoods and St. Charles areas who will link up next season in the MCAC.

A pacy midfielder with a brain for the game, Romanishen has been a leader on her youth team with the Lorette Soccer Club and in her community by coaching the u-10 Lorette girls indoor team.

Momentum is snowballing towards a full return to competition this Fall for CMU women's soccer and the 2021 MCAC season. Today, the Blazers announced the commitment of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate's Grace Siemens for the forthcoming campaign.

Siemens youth soccer career achievements include a WYSA City Championship with Lindenwoods C.C. and regularly competing with her Winnipeg-based high school program in the spring MHSAA season.
