Patrick Sumugat
Women's Basketball Head Coach
Patrick Sumugat is a rising star in the local Winnipeg basketball scene, coming to the Blazers with fresh ideas and high-quality experience at the high school and club levels, with specialized experience training high-level athletes for the college and professional systems.
The founder and head coach of Relentless Club Basketball, Sumugat built out his coaching resume building on his success as the lead basketball skills trainer at Bout to be Different Hoops (BTBD Hoops). With time spent in the high school system coaching varsity girls at Kildonan East Collegiate, as well as the head coach for the Basketball Federation of the Philippines (Canada) U16 girls team, Sumugat is also well-connected within the local basketball scene, and draws on those connections in building a competitive program here at CMU. He was brought on during the 2025/26 season by former head coach Sharlene Harding as a lead player development coach, and so will be a familiar face continuing on in the program.
Sumugat is certified as a USA Basketball Youth Development Coach, and holds a bachelor of science from the Philippine College of Health and Sciences, as well as a certification in Clinical Imaging Informatics from the Michener Institute of Ontario. He comes into a program that has seen huge success; the Blazers were MCAC Champions for five consecutive seasons beginning with the 2017/18 season, and have captured seven of the last nine MCAC titles.
