Curran Chan Continues Family Tradition Signing with Blazers MVB
Wednesday, April 3, 2024 @ 10:42 AM |
The CMU Men's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Curran Chan for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Grant Park and WinMan Volleyball Club product follows in his brother's footsteps to don the Green and Gold of the Blazers.
A dynamic outside attacker for his Grant Park Pirates team, Chan is a complete package very much in the mold of outgoing Blazers' combo left side and libero Albert Francisco, who is taking his talents to PacWest's College of the Rockies this upcoming season. The two share many similar attributes and the link goes beyond their on court play as they have been family friends for some time. While the Pirates weren't able to get past the Kelvin Clippers in the divisional semi-finals of their MHSAA "AAAA" playoffs, the team made the finals in the Pembina Trails Collegiate tournament, and Chan was named Tournament All-Star in two other tournament appearances, at Tec Voc and West Kildonan this past season. The team's most valuable player was also named an MHSAA Graduating All-Star following the conclusion of his high school season.

The CMU Men's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Levi Johnston for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Transcona Collegiate and Winman Volleyball Club student-athlete joins the Blazers as one of the top recruits of his graduating class, and will look to make an immediate mark on his new team.
Transcona Collegiate is not typically known to be a hot bed for top volleyball talent in the province but Johnston may be changing the narrative, as he led his varsity team to an MHSAA "AAA" Provincial Finals in his grade eleven season, and then continued to make history by captaining the squad to a "AAAA" Provincials berth in his senior year after the school's athletics programs got bumped up to the top tier in the province. It was the first time the Titans had featured at a "AAAA" provincial championship in the school's history. The team even managed to make a splash at the championships, upsetting their seventh-seeded Steinbach Regional opponent in the first round to make it into the "Elite Eight" of their new division. A dual-sport threat both on the volleyball and basketball court, Johnston was named an MHSAA "AAA" Provincial All-Star in both disciplines in the same season during his grade ten year, and followed that up with Graduating All-Star recognition this past season alongside being named to the "AAAA" All-Manitoba team.

The CMU Men's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Aiden Edwards for the 2024/25 MCAC season. The Garden City Collegiate product has the opportunity to make a big impact on the Blazers' back line with a mature game sense and touch not often seen in a rookie.
Edwards comes to CMU from Garden City, where he featured as captain of the Gophers soccer squad in both of his varsity seasons with his school team. Most recently, his Garden City boys indoor team were champions of the first half of the WYSA high school division II league, a win which promoted them up to the top division for the just completed second half. A multi-sport athlete, Edwards also stars as the Gophers' goalkeeper on the varsity handball team, which gives him a different perspective on shutting down the opposition's scoring chances. In addition, as an athlete on the school's track and field team competing in the sprint disciplines, he is able to hone his skills for the pitch making recovery runs and closing out to defend his opposition's attacks. With so many impact roles on his high school teams, it's no wonder Edwards was named the school's Athlete of the Month this past December.

The CMU Women's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Noel Wiebe for the 2024/25 MCAC season. The team will call on the Dakota Collegiate and BoniVital product to lock down the Blazers' back line when the season starts up in late summer.
The captain for her MHSAA "AAAA" Dakota Lancers team, Wiebe tests her strong defending abilities on her high school squad, who have just recently finished her final WYSA High School Girls' indoor season in the top Premiership Group A of the city-wide league. Directing her teammates in front of her from the defensive side of the ball, Wiebe also utilizes her strong voice on the stage as well, having recently featured in Dakota Collegiate's latest musical "Wicked;" though the multi-talented student-athlete has no plans to study music while at CMU.
