Blazers WSC Save Big Signing Wyatt for Last
The CMU Women's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Natalie Wyatt for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The 2023 Glenlawn grad is excited to get back into competitive game action with CMU, and will look to backstop the Blazers throughout this year's campaign.
Joining her fellow former Glenlawn Lion, Juliana Millan, Wyatt is also transferring to CMU after a year spent studying elsewhere, but coming back to competitive soccer has proven too strong a call to ignore for the experienced keeper. While she played for Glenlawn her two varsity seasons, her extensive experience comes more from the club side of the game.
A member of FC Northwest for her U16-U17 seasons, Wyatt gained an invite into the Valour high performance academy, where she sharpened her skills as a keeper. Further development at the Jeff Seeney Goalkeeping Academy, and in sessions with Blazers goalkeepers coach Lydia Balsillie, and Major League Soccer's Jonathan Sirois, now of CF Montreal hint at the kind of high-level coaching and abilities Wyatt possesses. Now playing with FC Northwest Stars in the WWSL since graduating out of the youth system, her 2022 squad attended senior women's club nationals in Toronto, and have taken the provincial title in both 2022 and 2023.
Proficient at both the outdoor game and on the hardcourt, it was with Warrior futsal that she got connected with new Blazers head coach Jason Moist, who convinced her to make the jump to CMU. "Nat is a huge, key signing for our program and will be a cornerstone of the team for many seasons to come," states the first year coach. "Her commitment to being the best at her position shines through as her technique, distribution and shot stopping abilities put her amongst the best at her position not only in this league but in the province." The potential coach Moist sees in Wyatt is also reflected in the team that he's assembled this year, with Wyatt noting "I know this team has so much potential, and it excites me to know I can help reach that potential. They're so welcoming, it's incredible."
Wyatt is off to Red Deer this weekend where she'll be helping backstop the squad in pre-season action against Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference competition in preparation for the team's first home league match on Sunday, September 8th against their rivals the Providence Pilots.
Blazers Women's Soccer last hoisted the provincial trophy in the fall of 2018, and will look to take another step towards capturing another title this coming season. The winner of the Manitoba Collegiate Athletics Conference earns the right to represent the province at the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) National Championships at the conclusion of the outdoor season, which the Blazers look to accomplish now entering the fourth year that the MCAC has been fully included in the Canada-wide conference.
