Men's Volleyball Continue their Avalanche of Signings with Matthew Janzen

The CMU Men's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Matthew Janzen for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Linden Christian, Bisons Club, and College of the Rockies transfer is bringing his talents back to Manitoba after a year away with one of the top CCAA programs in the country.

A 2023 graduate of Linden Christian, Janzen spent the past year studying kinesiology and playing volleyball at College of the Rockies in beautiful Cranbrook, BC. He got his feet wet playing college ball under 2023-24 CCAA Coach of the Year Cisco Farrero in the ultracompetitive PacWest Conference, with a team that sat atop the CCAA National Rankings for a total of eight weeks during a long stretch of the season. Featuring at left side with the Avalanche, the hometown Winnipeg talent found himself yearning for a return to the prairies, and will certainly be a big factor in the Blazers' lineup this season.

Shaftesbury Titan Obonde Steps Up to Sign with Blazers Soccer

The CMU Men's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Geno Obonde for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Shaftesbury High School product is taking his talents on the pitch and in the classroom across the street to CMU's campus where he will join the Blazers soccer family.

The fourth signing of the offseason for the CMU men's soccer program, Blazers co-head coaches Anderson Pereira and Gode Katembo are hard at work rounding out their roster for the upcoming campaign. Obonde adds some more versatility to the team makeup, having slotted in primarily up front throughout his career, but has more recently moved to the backline as a steady defending presence for the Titans. The Blazers' newest recruit was the second-leading scorer for his Shaftesbury squad in his first varsity season of Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) indoor league, and this past March wrapped up his final season there, helping the team to a Boys Championship Group semi-finals appearance, narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals thanks to their West-Winnipeg rival across the Assiniboine River Sturgeon Heights Huskies.

Men's Volleyball Take their Team to the Max with Another Anderson

The CMU Men's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Max Anderson for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Dakota Collegiate and WinMan Volleyball Club product joins his brother on what looks to be a young and talent-laden squad for the upcoming year.

Coming out of the perennial contender program at Dakota Collegiate, Anderson's Lancers team were finalists at the MHSAA "AAAA" Provincial Championships this past high school season after coming out on top the the SCAC zone to earn their spot at the major tournament. Anderson was named the Dakota Collegiate Athlete of the Month following their championship run, and also earned himself a Provincials All-Star selection and Graduating All-Star honours following the season. The team also medalled at the DMCI and MBCI tournaments in the city, took home a title at the Leboldus High tournament in Regina during the season, and developed a great rivalry with nearby Glenlawn Collegiate, where Anderson regularly matched up against fellow Blazers signing Adrian Deer. The Lancers and the Lions were neck-and-neck in most of their tournament and league finishes, entering the provincials as the second and third seeds respectively, but it was Anderson's Dakota side that punched their ticket to the finals in an epic semi-final battle.

Blazers MVB Bring the Heat with Addition of Spicer

The CMU Men's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Austin Spicer for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Sanford Collegiate and 204 Volleyball Club product could be a diamond in the rough out of rural Manitoba as he is just beginning to tap his potential on the hardcourt.

Known more for his hits on the ice than on the volleyball court, Spicer suited up for his Sanford Collegiate Sabres hockey, basketball, badminton, and beach volleyball teams in addition to their volleyball squad, and also for the MacDonald Yankees in AA baseball in the summer. The multisport athlete captained his high school volleyball team, where he played both left side and middle, but has gained more personal accolades through his high school and club hockey career. He has been part of the Sabres hockey leadership core for some time, and was selected to the Winnipeg High School Hockey League All-Star game as Sanford's leading scorer and MVP. Sanford's Athlete of the year in 2022, Spicer hopes to repeat in 2024 as he finishes up his high school studies and looks ahead to college, aided by the Travis Price Award, a scholarship he received through the WHSHL.

Blazers MBB Make their First Offseason Move Signing Point Guard Tugade

The CMU Men's Basketball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Caden Tugade for the 2024-25 MCAC and NIAC seasons. The Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and Crossover Basketball product will look to be an impact playmaker on the point for the Blazers this upcoming year.

Following in the footsteps of recently graduated shooting guard Binh Nguyen, as well as standout rookie from last season Lance Catipon, Tugade is making the jump from Daniel McIntyre to the Blazers for his first year of college eligibility. Playing in the Winnipeg Tier 1 zone of the MHSAA "AAAA" division, Tugade's Maroons had a number of tournament finals appearances en route to a Provincial Championships berth. A finals appearance in their first tournament of the year in Brandon was followed by another second-place finish in their own DMCI tournament, and then the team brought it all together to win the Centurion Shootout at Fort Richmond Collegiate in late January. The Maroons also medalled at St Paul's High School at the Nick Laping Memorial, where Tugade was recognized as a player of the game and defensive player of the game in the same tournament. A captain on the squad since his grade ten season, Tugade helped DMCI past the Miles Mac Buckeyes in this year's high school provincial championships, but saw their run end in the elite eight stage. He was named a zone All-Star for Winnipeg Tier 1, as well as a "AAAA" Graduating All-Star following the team's championship run in March. A multi-sport athlete, Tugade also competes for his high school in Badminton, ultimate, and volleyball, as well as in Football Manitoba's flag football league.
