Halle Meisner: November's Zueike Female Athlete of the Month
Congratulations to Halle Meisner of Blazers Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for November. The 2023-24 MCAC All-Conference selection continues to be the most consistent offensive performer for the Blazers as the team looks to recapture their 2024 Championship-winning form.
An undeniable offensive talent since her rookie season in 2021-22, the Moosehorn, Manitoba native continues to develop her strong play at the net this season, and has managed to round out her game even more adding skill in the Blazers' back court. A pillar of the Blazers' core four outsides alongside Julia Sawatzky, Kiera Haney, and Haley Bickell, has normally slotted in on the right side for CMU this season, though has the versatility to pass and swing left side when the game plan calls for it.
Including the Blazers' season-opener in late October, as well as this last weekend's two matches, Meisner has led all players in kills in six of ten games, leading her to be the MCAC's leader in kills at the Christmas break with 112, a rarity for someone hitting at the right side position. She is also second on the team in total blocks, stepping up her defensive game on the digging side as well.
Meisner has certainly come in clutch during a number of the Blazers' matches this year, leading the Blazers in kills both times CMU has taken the undefeated Pilots to five sets; the only team in the MCAC to do so this season thus far. Her consistency on and off the court has also helped the team avoid any major dropoffs or slides through the first ten games, and her play this past Friday on a tough Friday night day trip to Brandon was a testament to that consistency. After splitting the first two matches of the season with the Cougars, Meisner notched 11 kills and an incredible 7 aces in only three sets, using her spin serve to help the Blazers dominate Assiniboine and take back the advantage in the all-important second place race to host the MCAC semi-final on home court later this season.
Blazers Women's Volleyball is looking forward to a mid-season CCAA tune-up after the holidays, as they look to start their January with games in Camrose, Edmonton, and Red Deer before diving back into the MCAC schedule January 11th at home. The first two weekends of play after the break will be pivotal for both volleyball teams as they look to take crucial points in the standings in a crowded middle of the table.
