Congratulations to Briana Ehrmantraut of Blazers Women's Basketball on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for January. The 2023-24 MCAC and NIAC Player of the Year selection continues to be the most consistent offensive performer for the Blazers as the team looks to capture their next title.

An undeniable talent since her rookie season in 2021-22, the local St James Collegiate product is now entering the final phase of her college career, as the Blazers make a final push for playoff positioning heading into NIAC and then MCAC Championships. The reigning player of the year hasn't slowed down her pace this year, if anything expanding her offensive repertoire to be a bigger threat from both the outside and in the paint.

Ehrmantraut helped lead the Blazers to a perfect 4-0 record in the month of January, cashing in on wins over Trinity Bible and St Boniface, and will look to gain ground against the top-ranked Providence Pilots when the two sides clash this weekend. A constant leading scorer, Ehrmantraut piled up the points in January, and added 18 rebounds and 9 steals in the three games with stats available, proving she can be a threat on defence as well. Her January 17th performance against Les Rouges was a record-breaking one, as Ehrmantraut drained a personal best and CMU Blazers program record 35 points, topping her own 33 point performance in November. Of those 35 points, 27 were from beyond the arc, matching Caitlin Clark's record of 9 three-pointers in a college game, which allowed the veteran guard to claim another Blazers program record in the same game!

Blazers Women's Basketball head coach Sharlene Harding knows she has a special player in Ehrmantraut, stating "Briana has had a great run coming out of the December break, creating scoring opportunities every time she crosses over half. She has had impressive games with record-breaking shooting and tenacious defence. Her personal drive for continuous improvement is evident in her work ethic and performance on the court." Harding will certainly lean on Ehrmantraut to keep her scoring pace as they face their biggest rivals in the Pilots in a home-and-home series this weekend. Sunday afternoon's game promises to be a particularly memorable one for Ehrmantraut as she will be honoured as one of three graduating players on the squad alongside Oluwanifemi Gbadamosi and Danielle Ehmann.

February is another big month for the Blazers as this weekend's games are the final matchups between MCAC teams this season, and the team then heads South to Plymouth, Minnesota for their final NIAC games before returning the following weekend for the NIAC Championships. The Blazers close out their schedule on February 28th in a #1 v #2 battle for the MCAC Championships!
