River East's Ehmann Gives a Backcourt Boost To The Blazers

CMU Women's Basketball is very happy to announce the commitment of River East Collegiate's Danielle Ehmann for the 2021-22 NIAC and MCAC seasons.  The 5'8 guard has done just about everything at her northeast-Winnipeg high school despite losing her senior season to the pandemic. Ehmann competed for the Kodiaks in badminton, curling, field hockey, ultimate and even qualified for the provincial track championships as part of a 4 x 400 team.

Women's Basketball Recruit Has Tools For Success, And More

Excitement continues to grow towards the 2021-22 CMU women's basketball season as Joe Di Curzio announced the commitment of his second recruit for the forthcoming campaign; Linden Christian 6'0 forward, Anari Byfield.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Anari join us," said Di Curzio. "She is an amazing student-athlete who is a high-achiever on the court, in the community and in the classroom. With her length, jumping ability and timing she will be a superb and tenacious defensive player. Offensively, with her many skills she will be a player that will be extremely difficult to stop. She has the drive, determination, willingness to learn and being a student of the game, she will fit in perfectly with our team's culture."

Women's Basketball Beaming Over Recent Lord Selkirk Signing

Joe Di Curzio and the CMU Women's Basketball program are pleased to announce the commitment of Lord Selkirk Regional's Annika Goodbrandson for the 2021-22 NIAC and MCAC seasons.

Able to influence a game on both ends of the court, Goodbrandson is apt to use her height and athleticism to her advantage. "Annika's height, agility and intelligence make her an extremely tough defender," said Goodbrandson's high school coach, Sue Gilmour. "We would often match her up against our opponent's best player as we knew that Annika would shut them down. She is a strong offensive contributor as well."

Talented J.H. Bruns Forward Headlines 2021-22 Recruiting Class

Focus has shifted to 2021-22 for head coach Joe Di Curzio and the CMU Women's Basketball program as the Blazers welcome their first recruit commitment of the forthcoming MCAC and NIAC seasons, Maizy Lawson of Winnipeg's, J.H. Bruns Collegiate.

Despite a relatively late start to competitive basketball, the 6'0 forward has seen her skills blossom through her junior varsity and varsity years at Bruns. A major piece of that development can be credited to the strong coaching she has received in her club programs. Lawson began with the Junior Bison program in 2018 and then moved to TAP (Targeted Athlete Program) in 2019.

Time off from the MCAC schedule has given a new opportunity for CMU varsity teams to focus their attention on personal and community development. Members of the women's volleyball, basketball and soccer programs began October by spending three days on campus in Marpeck Commons, requesting donations of hygiene products in support of Winnipeg's North End Women's Centre (NEWC).
