Alberta Bound Men's Volleyball Team Challenges Edmonton University Colleges

There are still three weeks to go before Men's Volleyball steps into their first match of regular season competition in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, but the 2015 preseason is about to get under way for the Blazers with a series of exhibition matches this weekend in Northern Alberta.
Beginning on Thursday evening, CMU will meet the King's University College Eagles in Edmonton. The Eagles finished the 2014-15 Alberta Collegiate season with a record of 13 matches won and 11 losses, good for fourth place in the seven team ACAC North Division.

After defeating Confederation College by a score of 7-1 in their opening match of the Challenge Cup, it took penalty shots in Sunday afternoon's Cup Final against Lakehead University to determine a 2015 winner in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The Blazers conceded an early goal on a corner kick scramble against the Confederation ThunderHawks, but in the following 85 minutes it was all CMU as Jaime Hamilton scored twice and Ryan Jensen, Ben Wride, Michael Veremu, Afonso Arrais and Justin Jutzi added single goals to take the important three points that would set up Sunday's match of Lakehead versus CMU to become the Cup Final.

Seven months ago, the CMU Women's Basketball season ended in a disappointing 2015 MCAC Conference Championship. The Blazer came up just shy of their ultimate goal, falling to their conference rivals, Red River, by a mere two points and were forced to watch the Rebels celebrate their fourth consecutive conference title on the Blazers home court.

Super rookie Esther Schwarzkopf continued to grow her goal tally on Tuesday night and it couldn't have come at a bigger time as Women's Soccer grounded the Providence Pilots to the tune of 5-1 at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.
Schwarzkopf struck early as her team carried most of the possession and chances through the first 45 minutes, building a 2-0 lead before the break with the first-year and former Manitoba provincial rural high school Most Valuable Player scoring both Blazer goals.

The MCAC Women's Soccer of 2009 was the last time that the CMU Women's Soccer Team was able to defeat the Providence Pilots. It was also the last time that the Blazers captured the MCAC Women's Soccer Championship on a season that saw them face the Pilots four times during the regular season without taking a single point from their head to head match ups. Now two full weeks into the 2015 campaign and the Blazers - Pilots match up that begins Week 3 is certainly a contest worthy of attention.
