Riding High When It Matters; Men's Volleyball Finishes On Fire

Men's Volleyball made a big step forward on Friday night defeating the Providence Pilots 3-1 (25-20, 27-25, 19-25, 25-20) in front of a capacity crowd in the Loewen Athletic Centre. Winners of ten in row and leaders of the conference, the soaring Pilots carried a 10-1 record into the final regular season match of 2015-16.
"We were pretty confident that we could pull off a win against them," said third-year setter Jason Friesen, "most of the sets have been really close, we just hadn't been able to get it done in our previous meetings."

Congratulations to Matt Warkentin of the Men's Basketball Team on being selected The Pita Pit Male Athlete of the Month for January. The 6'2 second-year guard has taken a big step forward in his sophomore season with the Blazers and his biggest strides came in January when he averaged over 16 points per game.
"From the moment that Matt commited to CMU, almost two years ago, he has been committed himself to hard work," said Warkentin's head coach Billy Isaac, "That effort has translated into a great month where he has been asked to guard our opponent's biggest threats and to care for much of our offense due to numerous injuries this month."

Congratulations to Kim Town of the Women's Volleyball Team on being selected The Pita Pit Female Athlete of the Month for January. The 6'1 first-year middle blocker has been an instrumental part of the Blazers climb from their lowest ever MCAC finish in 2015, back into the 2016 MCAC playoffs.
Perhaps the biggest win of the Women's Volleyball season came on January 16th when CMU defeated the USB Rouges on home court, 3-2. The win was the Blazers seventh conference win and all but solidified their claim to the final playoff position.

Women's Soccer is very happy to announce the commitment of former Portage Trails Soccer Club and Manitoba Provincial Goalkeeper Lydia Balsillie who signed a letter of intent to compete for CMU for the 2016 MCAC Season.
Along with her training with St. Charles / Portage Trails and the Provincial Program, Balsillie's technical ability was strengthened at the Jeff Seney Goalkeeping Academy.

After some delay, the 2016 MCAC Futsal Schedule has been released and once again, five women's teams will chase the coveted prize of the Copa de la Paz trophy.
The Blazers schedule begins with a opening weekend visit to Brandon, January 23rd and 24th where they will open up the 2016 campaign at Brandon University's Healthy Living Centre against the Bobcats. The Bobcats are not new to MCAC, but they are new to futsal. Now two seasons into a varsity soccer program, the Bobcats, like the Blazers, have seen a quick development in their teams over past two years and both look to be early Championship contenders.
