Blazers Hope To Guard Championship As Copa de la Paz Schedule Is Released

For MCAC Futsal fans, the start of a new year means the beginning of a new quest to capture the coveted Copa de la Paz trophy held for the first time by CMU last March. The recently released 2016 schedule has a few new features as the sport continues to grow and develop in the province but one thing that won't change in the venue for the Championship that will take place where MCAC Futsal was born; in the Loewen Athletic Centre.

Vanessa Millions put pen to paper before the holidays, signing a Letter of Intent to join the CMU Women's Basketball program for the 2016-17 season.
The 6'2 Carman Collegiate center is just about to get her final high school season started for the Cougars and is coming off a spectacular Grade 11 year that saw her average over 24 points and 13 rebounds a game, helping her team win the 2015 Zone 4 Championships and advancing to the MHSAA 'AA' Girl's Provincials.

Women's Basketball faced some tough competition this preseason and the team has turned out all the better for it. Difficult losses to three imposing CIS teams (Lakehead Unversity, University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg), an even bigger challenge against the NAIA's Wayne State Wildcats, and two narrow losses to the Briercrest Clippers appears to have helped shape the Blazers into the top team in their own conference, at least at the moment.

On Wednesday night, Men's Basketball did what no team had been able to do thus far in the 2015-16 MCAC season; defeat the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen, and the Blazers did it in style overcoming a fourth quarter deficit and an injury list that grew over the course of the game, to move their record to 3-3 on the back of a 73-67 win.

Congratulations to Jessica Larabie of Women's Basketball on being selected The Pita Pit Female Athlete of the Month for November. Capping the first half of the season last night, with their sixth consecutive conference win, Larabie is helping the Blazers to their best ever start. Larabie has quietly gone about filling the stat sheet this month in many categories that have helped CMU to their undefeated record and first-place in MCAC.
