Women's Volleyball Boosted By Elite Middle Hitter For 2018-19

CMU Women's Volleyball is very pleased to announce the commitment of former Gimli Lakers Most Valuable Player Mackenzy Groot for the 2018-19 MCAC season. The 6'0 middle spent the 2017-18 season in the Ontario University Athletic Conference (OUA) competeing in U-Sports with the Nipissing Lakers.
"I am very excited to welcome another U-Sports calibre athlete to our program," said CMU head coach Evelyn Kampen. "Mackenzy is an extremely dynamic and versatile middle. She is fast and explosive and will be a strong force in our offense and blocking next season."

After suffering a draw and 2 losses in Rounds 6, 7 and 8 of the 2018 Copa de la Paz, Men's Futsal scored weekend victories over the ACC Cougars and Brandon Bobcats to pick up all six points, raising the squads confidence and more importantly, solidifying their place in the MCAC's top four as the teams head into Championship weekend this Saturday and Sunday in Brandon.

The CMU Women's Basketball Program is pleased to announce the commitment of Dakota Collegiate's Michayle Bottomley for the 2018-19 Manitoba Colleges and Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference seasons.
A Tournament All-Star at John Taylor's Piper Classic, Bottomley is averaging 12-plus points and 9 rebounds per game in her senior year with the Lancers, who tip-off tonight at 6:00 pm in SCAC Playoff action. The 5'10 forward has the ability to stretch the defense with her ability to shoot the ball from the outside and adds to that a developed game in the post.

It happened at the University of St-Boniface in 2017 and it happened again at Red River College last weekend. For the second consectutive season the MCAC Men's Volleyball Final ended with a John Nieckarz stuff block and with the CMU Blazers lifting the Championship trophy.
It was pure jubilation on Sunday afternoon as the players reacted to the match-winning block, the entire squad surrounding the 6'4 right side to celebrate the team's second MCAC Championship in Men's Volleyball in as many years. With the regular season series between the Providence Pilots and CMU tied 2-2, it would be the defending Champions who would take this most important meeting of the season 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-22.

The Blazers and Providence Pilots are set to meet again in the MCAC Women's Volleyball Championship after CMU upset the #2 ranked Red River Rebels in four sets on Saturday afternoon.
The biggest climbers from 2016-17 to 2017-18, the Rebels were unable to find their rhythm in a nerve-filled first set that saw the playoff-tested Blazers jump ahead 14-8 before Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year Dan MacGregor was forced to wave for his team's first timeout. Despite his team talk and inspiration, the Rebels would see CMU jump ahead 1-0 as left-side Haley Ginter pounded the final kill in a 25-20 first set win.
