Men's Volleyball Captures Second MCAC Championship In As Many Years

It happened at the University of St-Boniface in 2017 and it happened again at Red River College last weekend. For the second consectutive season the MCAC Men's Volleyball Final ended with a John Nieckarz stuff block and with the CMU Blazers lifting the Championship trophy.

It was pure jubilation on Sunday afternoon as the players reacted to the match-winning block, the entire squad surrounding the 6'4 right side to celebrate the team's second MCAC Championship in Men's Volleyball in as many years. With the regular season series between the Providence Pilots and CMU tied 2-2, it would be the defending Champions who would take this most important meeting of the season 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-22.

Women's Volleyball Upset Gives Blazers A Chance To Repeat

The Blazers and Providence Pilots are set to meet again in the MCAC Women's Volleyball Championship after CMU upset the #2 ranked Red River Rebels in four sets on Saturday afternoon.

The biggest climbers from 2016-17 to 2017-18, the Rebels were unable to find their rhythm in a nerve-filled first set that saw the playoff-tested Blazers jump ahead 14-8 before Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year Dan MacGregor was forced to wave for his team's first timeout. Despite his team talk and inspiration, the Rebels would see CMU jump ahead 1-0 as left-side Haley Ginter pounded the final kill in a 25-20 first set win.

Instant Classic: Men's Volleyball Fights Off Elimination To Beat Rouges

With their backs to the wall after three sets, Men's Volleyball exploded with a 25-15 fourth set win and rode an early lead in the fifth all the way to a berth in the 2018 MCAC Championship Final with a 3-2 victory over the #3 USB Rouges.

It was a first set that was completely dominated by CMU. John Nieckarz scored a massive solo stuff block midway through the set to give the Blazers a 14-6 advantage and force a USB timeout. The 6'4 right side hitter would make his biggest impact from the service line on Saturday, where the former River East Kodiak pounded 4 aces over the five-set match. CMU took the first by a lopsided score of 25-16.

Gearin' Up For The Semis: Women's Volleyball Clashes Again With Rebels

With just 48 hours left in preparation for the 2018 MCAC Women's Volleyball Final Fours, the defending champion Blazers slide into the Conference's finale in a familiar role as the dark horse. CMU finished their regular season with a record of 10-6 and crash landed last Friday in their final game, a lopsided straight sets loss to first-place Providence.

Men's Volleyball Inks Outside Hitter And Setter Combo With Big Potential

With the 2018 MCAC Men's Volleyball Final Four Championships only days away, the CMU Men's Volleyball Program is pleased to announce the commitments of Vincent Massey's Brock Carmichael and Lord Selkirk's Tim Juvonen for the 2018-19 season.

Carmichael, an explosive 6'1 outside hitter from Brandon's Vincent Massey High School led the Vikings to the 2017 MHSAA 'AAAA' Boys Provincial Championship as the #11 ranked team last November. The Vikings began the tournament by upsetting the #6 ranked Miles Mac Buckeyes but would later be eliminated in five sets by the Dakota Lancers.
