It happened at the University of St-Boniface in 2017 and it happened again at Red River College last weekend. For the second consectutive season the MCAC Men's Volleyball Final ended with a John Nieckarz stuff block and with the CMU Blazers lifting the Championship trophy.
It was pure jubilation on Sunday afternoon as the players reacted to the match-winning block, the entire squad surrounding the 6'4 right side to celebrate the team's second MCAC Championship in Men's Volleyball in as many years. The Blazers and Providence Pilots are set to meet again in the MCAC Women's Volleyball Championship after CMU upset the #2 ranked Red River Rebels in four sets on Saturday afternoon.
The biggest climbers from 2016-17 to 2017-18, the Rebels were unable to find their rhythm in a nerve-filled first set that saw the playoff-tested Blazers jump ahead 14-8 before Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year Dan MacGregor was forced to wave for his team's first timeout. Despite his team talk and inspiration, the Rebels would see CMU jump ahead 1-0 as left-side Haley Ginter pounded the final kill in a 25-20 first set win.

It was a first set that was completely dominated by CMU. John Nieckarz scored a massive solo stuff block midway through the set to give the Blazers a 14-6 advantage and force a USB timeout. The 6'4 right side hitter would make his biggest impact from the service line on Saturday, where the former River East Kodiak pounded 4 aces over the five-set match. CMU took the first by a lopsided score of 25-16.
