Conference Road Weekend Looms For Women's Basketball
Friday, November 23, 2018 @ 3:08 PM |
Women's Basketball re-enters conference play this weekend determined to keep up the high level of play that has the 2018 NIAC Finalists out to a 2-0 start. Last weekend in non-conference action, the Blazers faced two big challengers from tough Mon-Dak opponents at the Devil's Lake Classic; losses of a combined 69-points to NDSCS Wildcats and Lake Region State Royals, but those losses didn't do anything to defeat CMU.

It is certainly a surprise to see them at the top, but the perrenial basement dwellers of MCAC Men's Volleyball have clawed their way up the 2018-19 standings to become top dogs (or cats), for at least for the time being. Head coach Joel Small has been chipping away at improving his squad's technical abilities and now through great recruiting in the past offseason, the ACC Cougars sit in first place after two weekends of action with a conference-leading record that includes 3 wins.

After losing the first two sets of the 2018-19 MCAC Regular Season, Women's Volleyball showed their resilience in front of a boisterous home crowd by winning the third and fourth and then came back from an 8-10 deficit in the fifth to defeat USB 15-12, winning the match 3-2.
Fourth-year power, Haley Ginter pumped 13 kills for CMU while rookie middle Mackenzy Groot scored 7, leading her team with a 54.5% kill efficiency.

Congratulations to Will Anderon of Men's Soccer on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for October. The first-year midfielder quietly went about his work anchoring the Blazers midfield from the bottom of the four-man diamond. The product of Winnipeg's Bonivital Soccer Club and Focus 9 Soccer Academy, Anderson's technical and tactical abilities are his strengths but it is his ability to read the play that allows his teammates the freedom to push forward to attack while providing them cover defensively.
