Sunday, January 6, 2019 @ 4:47 PM |
Bronze felt almost as good as Gold for Women's Volleyball on Sunday afternoon as the Blazers scored their highest-placing in four previous attempts at the Adidas Cup in Oshawa, Ontario, equaling and then taking their 2012 semifinal appearance once step further by defeating the Cambrian Golden Shield 3-1 in the third-place game.
Advancing into the semifinals out of Pool B was a task in itself for the Blazers who found themselves grouped with the Seneca Sting and nationally-ranked Fanshawe Falcons. Down 0-2 to Seneca, CMU bounced back winning in five sets before falling 1-3 to the CCAA's #5 ranked Fanshawe who would go on to win their second consecutive Adidas Cup on Sunday afternoon, defeating the host Durham Lords in the Championship Final.

Congratulations to Julia Schatkowsky of Women's Basketball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for November. The sophomore forward has been a big factor in the Blazers 6-0 start to the 2018-19 Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season.
The 6'1 product of Winnipeg's Vincent Massey Collegiate has proven herself to be a match-up challenge for all of CMU's opponents this month, averaging 21.2 points per game in her team's six wins. Schatkowsky's biggest offensive weekend came on November 23rd and 24th when she dropped 25 on the Red River Rebels in a 60-22 win and followed that with 28 against the Turtle Mountain Mighty Mikinocks the very next day in Belcourt, North Dakota in CMU's 87-63 win.
