Offensive explosion sparks Blazers to home win over Mighty Mikinocks

An incredible 48-point second quarter vaulted the CMU Blazers into a 70-45 halftime lead over Turtle Mountain Community College on Saturday afternoon after trailing the Mighty Mikinocks 27-22 after one.

On Friday night it was the visitors who pulled away late in the game to get the preseason win thanks to a fourth period that saw the Mikinocks outscore their opponents by 14 points, pushing past CMU for a 89-83 win.

Fourth quarter push lifts CMU over Turtle Mountain in final preseason game

Anna Pyne scored 20 second half points to power CMU past Turtle Mountain Community College in NIAC preseason women's basketball action on Friday night. The first-year guard topped all offensive performers with a game-high 26 points, shooting 10 of 20 from the field and hitting on 5 of 11 from beyond the 3-point line; a career high for the rookie.

Kieran Baydock: October's Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Kieran Baydock of Men's Soccer and Men's Basketball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for October. A rare dual-sport athlete with the Blazers, Baydock proved in 2018-19 that he was not a one-trick pony by lacing up his soccer boots in the fall and high tops in the winter. This October, the product of nearby Shaftesbury High School contributed to the success of both programs simultaneously, showing his dominance outdoor and indoor.

Pay Back Is Sweet For Blazers Who Top Providence 3-0 For First Win

With the 2019 MCAC Men's Volleyball Championship Final still fresh in the mind of the Blazers, CMU evened things up with the Providence Pilots on Wednesday night, soundly defeating the now defending champions in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-21.

The Blazers showed their prowess at the net in the opening set led by four-year middle Jack Tyrrell. The former Linden Christian Wing counted two momentum-changing solo blocks and wowed the full house in the Loewen Athletic Centre midway through the opening set with a series of consecutive blocks - a one-handed soft-block followed immediately by a second soft-block - that unfortunately saw the ensuing CMU attack get caught in the net. Tyrrell helped his team's cause from the service line too, scoring 2 aces, all part of a 25-16 set win and a 1-0 advantage in the best of five home opener.
