Carter Hofer: November's Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Carter Hofer of Men's Volleyball on being selected CMU's Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for November. Hofer guided his team to an MCAC best record of 7-1 through the month and was a big part of the Blazers' winning streak that spanned 20-consecutive sets from October 30 to November 25th.

Congratulations to Jessica Marx-Houndle of Women's Basketball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for November. Marx-Houndle led the Blazers to a record of 4-1 through the month of November, good for a share of first-place in the NIAC Women's Basketball standings as the conference winds down for exams and the approaching semester break.

Carter Hofer pounded 19 kills over three sets on Saturday afternoon as CMU scored another impressive home court win, 3-0 over the Assiniboine Cougars. Coming off a dominant performance of 10 kills in Friday's win over their Brandon-based opponents, the 6'3 left side was an even stronger force in the front row, leading CMU to their 6th consecutive conference regular season win in three sets; 25-21. 26-24, 25-16.

CMU kept their perfect home court record in tact on Friday night, coming from behind to edge the Assiniboine Cougars 3-2. The visitors jumped ahead 1-0 after the first set winning 25-23 and came within a point of increasing their lead to 2-0, leading 24-23 in the second set only to see the hosts battle back for a 28-26 win. Sadie McTavish would crush one of her 14 kills in the match for the set-winner.

The injury bug effecting women's basketball has now officially been carried from the preseason into the regular season but it didn't stop CMU from collecting two wins in their first weekend of NIAC play in Ellendale last weekend, despite their reduced roster.
Fourth year guard Jessica Marx-Houndle led by example on Sunday, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds as CMU topped the Trinity Lions 67-48. The Blazers' success was in now way a small feat. CMU entered the weekend action without the services of 2019 leading scorer and NIAC women's basketball Most Valuable Player Julia Schatkowsky and third-year forward Carley Matkowski. Madison Wood also came up big in the win, scoring 14 points while adding 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
