Friday, November 1, 2019 @ 2:10 PM |
Congratulations to Kieran Baydock of Men's Soccer and Men's Basketball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for October. A rare dual-sport athlete with the Blazers, Baydock proved in 2018-19 that he was not a one-trick pony by lacing up his soccer boots in the fall and high tops in the winter. This October, the product of nearby Shaftesbury High School contributed to the success of both programs simultaneously, showing his dominance outdoor and indoor.

With the 2019 MCAC Men's Volleyball Championship Final still fresh in the mind of the Blazers, CMU evened things up with the Providence Pilots on Wednesday night, soundly defeating the now defending champions in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-21.
The Blazers showed their prowess at the net in the opening set led by four-year middle Jack Tyrrell. The former Linden Christian Wing counted two momentum-changing solo blocks and wowed the full house in the Loewen Athletic Centre midway through the opening set with a series of consecutive blocks - a one-handed soft-block followed immediately by a second soft-block - that unfortunately saw the ensuing CMU attack get caught in the net. Tyrrell helped his team's cause from the service line too, scoring 2 aces, all part of a 25-16 set win and a 1-0 advantage in the best of five home opener.

CMU did not disappoint on Wednesday night in their regular season home opener, pounding the visiting Providence Pilots in straight sets (25-7, 25-23, 25-16) to open the new campaign on top, much to the delight of a full house in the Loewen Athletic Centre.
Renee Desroches held the reigns for the Blazers offense and spread out her arsenal perfectly in the opening set. Outside hitters Sadie McTavish, Jana Klassen and Jess Edel each counted 2 kills while the third-year setter scored 2 herself, the result of setter-dumps. From the service line, McTavish held a hot hand for the hosts. The third-year transfer from the University of Winnipeg challenged the Pilots defenders with her accurate spin-serve, finding the court with 3 aces.

There was no magic left in their old silk hats on Saturday afternoon as CMU were outscored 2-0 by the Providence Pilots in the 2019 MCAC Men's Soccer semifinal.
Round 1 of the 2019 Final Fours resembled 2018 in so many ways. Twelves months changed nothing as the Brandon Bobcats held down top-spot followed by the Pilots, Blazers and Rouges. In fact, after 45 minutes played on Saturday, the Providence versus CMU matchup was an utter deja of 2018; chances, shots, possession all belonging to the Blazers, but the Pilots holding the important advantage on the scoreboard.
