Former Club National Champion Takes Next Step At CMU

The CMU Women's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Brooklyn De Jong for the 2021-22 MCAC season. A 2019 graduate of Winnipeg's River East Collegiate, de Jong brings a resume that includes one season of MCAC experience after the 5'10 middle spent 2019-20 with the Providence Pilots.

Success has followed De Jong throughout her high school and club career, beginning in Grade 9 when the Kodiaks lifted a provincial championship. River East would qualify for the Manitoba provincial championships over her next two seasons and in De Jong's final season, she was fortunate enough to be selected as a Graduating All-star and the recipient of the Coaches' Choice Award.

Excitement continues to grow towards the 2021-22 CMU women's basketball season as Joe Di Curzio announced the commitment of his second recruit for the forthcoming campaign; Linden Christian 6'0 forward, Anari Byfield.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Anari join us," said Di Curzio. "She is an amazing student-athlete who is a high-achiever on the court, in the community and in the classroom. With her length, jumping ability and timing she will be a superb and tenacious defensive player. Offensively, with her many skills she will be a player that will be extremely difficult to stop. When Luke Janzen steps on the volleyball court next fall he will by joining many familiar faces in the 2021 recruiting class from his days as a high school and club volleyball player while also keeping a bit of a family legacy going at CMU.

A versatile 6'0 left-side who was selected Male Athlete of the Year by his Winnipeg high school, Linden Christian in 2019 and 2020, Janzen helped the Wings to a 'AAAA' Junior Varsity provincial berth and a bronze-medal finish in 2018.

Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Scholarship Recipient Boosts CMU Blazers

It's been a big week for Paige Wright. On top of this announcement, that the Warren Collegiate-product has committed to play her collegiate volleyball at CMU with the Blazers, the 5'7 setter was selected as the recipient of the prestigous Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Award. The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating high school volleyball player who demonstrates excellence on the court and in the classroom as well as leadership through well-rounded participation in school and community activities.
