Daniel McIntyre-Ridd: October's Zueike Male Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Daniel McIntyre-Ridd of Men's Soccer on being selected the CMU Zueike Male Athlete of the Month for October. The sixth-year captain of the Blazers was instrumental on the back end during CMU's Cinderella story run during the MCAC Soccer Championships this past weekend.
Since he joined the Blazers for his first season back in 2016, McIntyre-Ridd has been a stalwart of the CMU defence, challenging the opposition's top strikers game in and game out. McIntyre-Ridd had himself another great season this year, captaining the team from the back line, an was particularly on point with his game during the month of October. Early in the month he was pivotal in the Blazers full-time 0-0 draw with the top team in the standings, Providence Pilots, which was an omen of good things to come for CMU when the two sides matched up again weeks later in the MCAC Soccer Championships semi-finals. McIntyre-Ridd added a goal in his final home match at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex during a 12-1 blowout of the Assiniboine Community College Cougars.

The MCAC Soccer Championships may have happened over Halloween weekend this year, but the Blazers men's soccer squad fell one game short of writing their Cinderella story on their quest for the ultimate treat: the opportunity to represent Manitoba at the CCAA National Championships later this month.
This year's editions of CMU soccer teams both entered the championship weekend as the fourth seeds, and heavy underdogs entering Saturday's semi-final matchups with top-seeded St Boniface Rouges on the women's side, and Providence Pilots in the men's division.

The 2021 MCAC Soccer Championship weekend is upon us, and the matchups are all set for the Provincial event, which will see the winners compete for a CCAA National Championship in November.
The Blazers women's soccer team comes in to the championship tournament as the fourth seed, and will matchup with the top team St Boniface Rouges in Saturday's semi-final. Despite the large difference in records between the two sides, CMU's squad has matched up quite well against Les Rouges throughout their three regular season meetings which included two close losses along with a a 1-1 draw at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in their first meeting. The Blazers have defended well against St Boniface's high-powered offence, allowing only six goals over their three matches.

Weeks five and six were busy ones for the Blazers women's and men's soccer teams, which started with a mid-week night game against the visiting Providence Pilots on October 6th, and then back-to-back Thankgiving weekend games that started on the road in Brandon, and finished at home on a rainy Sunday afternoon. This past weekend Blazers women's soccer had a rare Friday night matchup with Les Rouges which was a makeup date for the postponed Thanksgiving Sunday match, and then both teams then hit the road on Sunday for their final visit to Brandon prior to the upcoming MCAC Championships.

Congratulations to Matheus Dos Anjos Aquino of Men's Soccer on being selected the CMU Zueike Male Athlete of the Month for September. The Brazilian international has made his mark on the young Blazers squad, as well as the MCAC by displaying a goal-scoring prowess not seen from this team in quite some time.
