Oluwanifemi Gbadamosi: January's Zueike Female Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Oluwanifemi Gbadamosi of Women's Basketball on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for January. The second year forward has been the backbone of the Blazers on the boards all season.

The Blazers women's basketball team has had a busy January schedule with eight competitions throughout the month, including five games counting towards MCAC standings, and five games against NIAC competition, with the games against Providence counting towards both leagues' standings.  With several team members in and out of the lineup since the fall semester, head coach Joe DiCurzio has had to lean on his healthy players to grind out wins, with Gbadamosi being top on that list.  The team went perfect in league play during the month going into their final weekend of NIAC games before championships.

No Bad Luck for Blazers on Friday the 13th

No Bad Luck for Blazers on Friday the 13th

The first weekend back in MCAC league play may have started off on Friday the Thirteenth, but it was certainly no day for bad luck for the Blazers.  Four wins on Friday night, followed by another four on Saturday had the Blazers take eight of a possible ten games on the weekend slate.

In their first home action since early December, the Blazers volleyball squads hosted Les Rouges at the Loewen as the CCAA marquee matchup for Manitoba and the green and gold didn't dissappoint.  Coming off a third place finish at the Niagara Knights Invitational in Southern Ontario, the Blazers men came out firing on all cylinders, taking the first set by a 25-15 scoreline, then the second 25-17 before a third and final tight 25-23 game that gave the Blazers the win.  CMU managed to spread the offence around throughout the match, but Duncan Petrie led all players with nine kills from the right side, and added a game-high three aces as well.

Blazers See Busy Start to 2023

Although we are only a few days into the second semester of classes, the Blazers were busy over the break, culminating with a big slate of exhibitions this past weekend.

Both women's and men's volleyball squads took to the skies on Thursday and safely reached Toronto where they went their separate ways; the women East along Lake Ontario to Oshawa where they were competing in the Durham College Cup, while the men headed to the Niagara peninsula to meet OCAA competition at the Niagara Knights Invitational.

Anna Pyne: November's Zueike Female Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Anna Pyne of Women's Basketball on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for November. The veteran ponit guard provided some much-needed consistency and scoring for the Blazers as they started their 2022-23 campaign.

The women's basketball roster saw plenty of changes both with new recruits during the summer, as well as some key injuries during training leading up to the first official match, but one of the pillars of the team thus far this season has been Pyne, who is now entering her third season of eligibility with CMU.  Pyne brings with her a championship-winning pedigree, having been with the team for MCAC championship wins in 2020 and 2022, along with a NIAC championship win in the spring of 2020.

From A to Zia: New Women's Basketball Recruit Has the Court Covered

The CMU Women's Basketball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of versatile two-way player Zia Dacara for the 2022-23 MCAC and NIAC seasons. The St James Collegiate product comes to CMU with a championship-winning mentality that will fit in well with the recent success of the program.

Dacara brings a versatility to the Blazers, having played point guard in junior varsity and centre in her first year of varsity, with an athleticism that allows her to play up and down the lineup.
