Men's Volleyball Makes Impact With First Recruit of 2015-16

The CMU Men's Volleyball Team is very happy to announce the commitment of Dakota Collegiate's Makoy Penner. The versatile 6'4 attacker featured at left side and at middle in the Dakota rotation during his high school career, helping the Lancers to a 'AAAA' quarter-finals appearance in 2013 and 2014.
"I am extremely excited to have Makoy on board," said head coach Don Dulder, "He is a very intelligent player who will be versatile to our team and comes from one of the province's top AAAA programs."

The CMU Women's Soccer Team is pleased to announce the commitment of Northland Parkway Collegiate striker Esther Schwartzkopf for the 2015-16 MCAC Soccer season.
Schwartzkopf was selected the 2014 MHSAA Rural Provincial Most Valuable Player last October when she captained her high school to a Zone Championship en route to a Provincial Girls Championship in her home town of Winkler.

With the MCAC Basketball Championship come and gone and the Women's Volleyball team completing their regular season without a playoff berth, CMU's last hope for a 2015 Conference Championship in a full varsity sport will be decided this weekend on the volleyball court at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon; host of the 2015 MCAC Volleyball Final Fours.

It has been another challenging MCAC regular season for second year head coach Billy Isaac and his staff. Their ten point loss last weekend to the University of Winnipeg on home court left the Blazers with an overall 2014-15 conference record of 2-13 to add the previous seasons record of 3-11 for a two season total of 5-24.
The saving grace for the Blazers over this period was the semi-final upset that the team pulled off in Otterburne last March. To date, this was the first-time in MCAC Men's Basketball history that a #4 has beaten a #1 seed in a conference semifinal and CMU did it on the back of a determined first-year guard Ryan Kehler who led the Cinderella-Blazers with 32 points.

It has been half a decade since the letters C-M-U were etched on the MCAC Women's Basketball Championship trophy. In 2010, the last time the Loewen Athletic Centre hosted the conference's basketball showcase event, the Blazers claimed the top prize on home court.
The members of the current team, who last weekend completed a regular season that produced a record of 9 wins in 15 conference competitions, believe that the friendly confines of the Loewen Athletic Centre could give the Blazers the advantage they need to be victorious at home.
