Women's Futsal Turns A New Chapter; Underdogs Become Favourites

There has been a gradual improvement for the women's futsal team since they first stepped on the court in November to host the 2015 Canadian Grasslands Cup and finished in fourth-place in the four team tournament. Three months later, the squad prepares for another run at a trophy, but with a new confidence and expectation.

The Blazers began their 2016 Copa de la Paz tournament with two wins in Brandon. 6-4 winners over the Brandon Bobcats in their opening tournament round-robin match and 5-3 winners over the ACC Cougars.

The Pita Pit Male Athlete of the Month - February

Congratulations to Jon Hayter of Men's Basketball on being selected the Pita Pit Male Athlete of the Month for February. After missing two weeks of action to finish the month of January, the second year guard picked up right where he left off when he returned to the court this month leading his team to a surprise first round upset of the #2 ranked Providence Pilots in the 2016 MCAC Men's Basketball semifinals and posted a 33 point, 12 rebound performance in a narrow loss to the defending Champion, Red River Rebels in the Conference Finals.

Fifth Set Freeze Locks Men's Volleyball Out Of Championship Appearance

CMU surrendered two match-point opportunities in the fourth set of Saturday night's 2016 MCAC Men's Volleyball Semifinal, only to see the defending champion Red River Rebels claw back to steal the fourth and advance to Sunday's Championship Match with a 3-2 win (20-25, 25-21, 18-25, 26-24, 17-15).

The first and third sets were all CMU. Midway through the opener, 2016 All-Conference selection, John Nieckarz showed his offensive versatility when he pounded a kill for a CMU sideout and followed it with an ace from the service line to give the Blazers a 15-12 advantage in the set. The scoring run continued as fellow All-Conference selection Joel Kliewer pushed the score to 16-12 on a kill from left-side to force the Rebels into a timeout. CMU would go on to take the set 25-20.
