Blazers Win Big Over Briercrest To Start 2016-17 Preseason
It was just one win, but it was a win that may carry a lot of significance as Women's Basketball prepares for preseason competition on Thanksgiving Weekend in the Alberta Collegiate Athletic Conference and from there, to their first season as members of two conferences.
Winners of eleven out of twelve MCAC regular season games in 2015-16, CMU has never had a dominant record when playing teams outside of their home province to date. On Friday night, those tides turned as the Blazers hosted the ACAC's Briercrest Clippers and entertained their home crowd to the tune of a 68-49 win.

Its been more than a decade since Manitoba's Francophone University, Universite de St-Boniface, stepped on a women's soccer pitch. This Saturday afternoon, the newest MCAC program prepares to kickoff at Memorial Park in St Vital and standing opposite Les Rouges to welcome them to the competition, CMU is hungry for a win.
Results were disheartening for the maturing Blazers in Week 1 of the young season. CMU took the lead on two occasions versus Providence last Saturday, only to see the Pilots bounce back on the counterattack, scoring equalizers only moments after the Blazers had taken a 1-0 and 2-1 lead. Speed and fitness appeared to be big factors for the Pilots in the final 45 minutes of the match, as the home team scored twice to send CMU away empty-handed.

Two goals late in the contest allowed Men's Soccer to steal three points away from the Providence Pilots on Saturday afternoon in Otterburne on MCAC Kickoff Weekend 2016.
After out-chancing the hosts 8-1 in the first half, CMU was unable to convert on even one chance in the opening forty-five minutes. Ryan Jensen zipped a free-kick just over the bar in the 28th minute and Ben Wride missed a glorious opportunity to give the Blazers the lead when he was awarded a penalty kick in the 32nd minute only to be shunned by Pilot's first year goalkeeper Darcy Friesen.

A new era of Men's Soccer is about to be unveiled to the MCAC this weekend as a new core of young leaders prepare to done their green CMU shirts.
It isn't a fully new squad for the Blazers. Two fifth years enter their final campaign this weekend; fullback Nick Czehryn (pictured left) and three time All-Conference selection Cole Johnson. The two started together and hope to finish together, lifting the team's first soccer banner since 2005.

It is less than twenty-four hours before Women's Soccer kicks off their 2016 MCAC Campaign and it couldn't come soon enough! The Blazers are still riding high after their finest conference season in recent years, on the pitch and on the court.
Leading the squad into the new season is fourth year defender and two-time All-Conference selection, Kyra Neufeld (pictured). She along with fellow veteran April Klassen, who returns to the lineup after some significant time off with injury, have high hopes for a team that is growing together in experience and performance.
