Madeline Blackmore: September's Zueike Female Athlete of the Month
Congratulations to Madeline Blackmore of Blazers Women's Soccer on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for September. The sophomore started all seven of the Blazers' matches in the month, and leads the team in nearly all offensive statistical categories.
After a tough rookie outdoor campaign in 2024 that saw Blackmore in and out of the lineup due to injury, her star started to rise during the futsal season, when her ability to finish in front of goal truly became evident. Blackmore has parlayed that indoor success into a good start to the 2025 outdoor season, scoring four of the Blazers' six goals in the month, and currently sits sixth in the conference in that category. Perhaps more than anything, Blackmore's ability to score clutch goals has been paramount to the team's succes, lifting the Blazers to two wins over the Cougars in the month, and helping the team secure the season series and take a huge advantage in holding the tie-break in the standings with their Western Manitoba opponents. Both wins were on game-winning goals from Blackmore, and she currently leads the conference in that statistical category.

Craig McKenzie Blazes his Trail to CMU to Head Coach Women's Volleyball
The CMU Women's Volleyball program is pleased to announce Craig McKenzie the successor to head coach Jayme Menzies, and will look to hit the ground running in taking the team to new heights with Manitoba slated to host the 2026 CCAA Nationals.
If McKenzie seems like a familiar face around CMU, it's because he's been on campus for plenty of games over the last several years. His daughter Sahra McKenzie played under Jayme Menzies for three seasons, capping off her time as a Blazer with the program's first appearance at a CCAA Nationals in March of 2024. McKenzie has a lengthy list of prior coaching experiences following his own USports career as a member of the University of Winnipeg Wesmen. Another connection to outgoing head coach Jayme Menzies was Craig's involvement as an assistant coach with the Wesmen from 2007-2014 during the years which Menzies played for the University of Winnipeg herself.

Women's Volleyball Head Coach Jayme Menzies Leaves Program in a Good Place
The CMU Blazers would like to give a heartfelt thanks and bid farewell to Women's Volleyball coach Jayme Menzies, who leaves the program in a good place after a busy spring of recruiting for the 2025/26 team.
Menzies joined the Blazers program in 2019, and took the helm of the women's team for the 2019/20 season, finding immediate success by capturing the MCAC title in 2020, during the MCAC's first probationary year of inclusion in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association. The Blazers took home the MCAC title once again under Menzies during the 2023/24 season, securing the program's first-ever berth in the CCAA National tournament held in Red Deer in 2024.

2025/26 Women's Basketball Roster Preview
Blazers women's basketball has been the most successful CMU Athletics program over the past seven years, capturing six MCAC titles, as well as two NIAC titles during that span. The program is looking to continue its hot streak, but will have some big holes in the roster to fill if they want to bring titles back to CMU in back-to-back seasons.

2025/26 Men's Basketball Roster Preview
After a big win on home court last march in the MCAC Championship Final, Blazers Men's Basketball is looking to run it back this year with no graduates leaving the program. That said, there will still be a few roster changes with some student-athletes ending their time with the Blazers, and a few roster spots up for grabs for some incoming recruits. As usual, Blazers head coach Scott Martin has kept things quiet on the signing front, instead electing to watch some of his potential additions throughout summer training before offering spots to the top recruits.
