Men's Volleyball Makes Statement For MCAC In OCAA Preseason Tournament

How competitive is the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, you may ask? Men's Volleyball showed that they can rally with Ontario's top college programs this weekend in the 2017 Seneca Sting Challenge, an annual preseason tournament attended by the OCAA's best teams. 

CMU was entered into Pool A with the likes of the 2017 OCAA Gold Medalists and Bronze Medalists (Mohawk Mountaineers and Fanshawe Falcons, respectively) as well as the Sheridan Bruins and Canadore Panthers and challenged the tournament hosts, Seneca Sting, in exhibition action last Thursday.

Men's Soccer Squeaks Out Another Point In Injury Time

For the second consecutive Saturday, Men's Soccer were able to recover a draw just before the referee's final whistle. It began on September 30th in Brandon, when a second half goal had the Bobcats expecting a home field win only to see Ryan Jensen spoil the party in the 92nd minute to draw CMU level in a 1-1 tie.

With only 1 win to go with 3 ties and 1 defeat, the Blazers sat on just 6 points after 5 matches entering Saturday's meeting with the first-place USB Rouges. The defending MCAC Champions, winners of all five matches in their 2017 schedule to date, found CMU difficult to break down until Derek Tessier converted for Les Rouges midway through the first half to open the scoring.

Stefan Schuler: September's CMU Blazers Men's Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Stefan Schuler of Men's Soccer on being selected the CMU Blazers Athlete of the Month for September. Known primarily as a strong defensive player, the first-year midfielder has flexed his offensive muscles this month, scoring four goals in six matches played.

Schuler scored his first in a 4-0 home win over the ACC Cougars on September 15th and two days later, converted with his head from a free-kick in a 4-1 loss to the Providence Pilots. The following weekend in a series of friendlies with the Thunder Bay Chill, Schuler scored twice in a 3-2 loss on September 24th. Along with those highlights, the graduate of River East Collegiate and product of FC Northwest has been a central piece of the Blazers midfield.

Lydia Balsillie: September's CMU Blazers Women's Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Lydia Balsillie of Women's Soccer on being selected the CMU Blazers Athlete of the Month for September. The second-year goalkeeper has backstopped her team to top spot in the MCAC after back to back wins to end the month; 6-0 over ACC Cougars and a 1-0 win against the defending MCAC Champions, Brandon Bobcats.

Plett Powers Women's Soccer Into First Place In The MCAC Standings

Women's Soccer picked up six more points from matches this weekend, at home to ACC on Friday night and away to Providence on Sunday afternoon, to leap-frog the idle Brandon Bobcats and claim top spot in the MCAC as the teams enter Week 3.

Central to the Blazers success was the offensive output of Manitoba Bisons transfer, Camille Plett who pounded in five goals and was directly involved in the creation of the four others in a 7-0 and 2-0 win.
