Jaden Harms: January's CMU Blazers Male Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Jaden Harms of Men's Basketball on being selected the CMU Blazers Male Athlete of the Month for January. The second year guard led CMU to four NIAC wins and two critical MCAC wins over Providence and Red River to ensure that the Blazers will be one of the two teams competing on February 10th in Otterburne for the 2018 MCAC Championship.

Congratulations to Rachel Oswald of Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Blazers Female Athlete of the Month for January. The fifth-year outside hitter helped her team to a January conference record of 3-1 and started the month with a respectable seventh-place finish in the twelve team Adidas Cup Challenge at Durham College.

Former Fort Richmond Collegiate teammates, Abdi Amin and Kniel Sullera led the CMU offense last weekend as the Blazers split their final regular season away games of the 2017-18 NIAC Basketball schedule with the Turtle Mountain Mighty Mikinocks in Belcourt, North Dakota. On Saturday night, Amin led the Blazers, scoring 18 as CMU took home a 93-82 win. The Mikinocks rebounded on Sunday, 104-93, despite Sullera's season high 28 point performance. The former Team Manitoba guard is averaging 15.0 points per game in his rookie season with the Blazers, landing him second on his team in scoring behind fellow rookie guard, Nick Kasmik with 16.0

After an impressive second place result in the 2017-18 preseason in Toronto against some of the top Men's Volleyball programs in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Conference, the Blazers fly out of Winnipeg again on Thursday to challenge their eastern neighbours. For CMU, the challenge is more than about gearing up for the second half of their conference schedule, it is just as much about making a statement on behalf of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference that they are ready to compete at a national level.

Congratulations to Caitlin Fennell of Women's Basketball on being selected the CMU Blazers Women's Athlete of the Month for November. Winners of nine in a row, Fennell and her teammates have been riding high lately, sitting on top of both the MCAC and NIAC Women's Basketball standings.
Central to the success of the team, Fennell has been a consistent performer under the hoop for the Blazers as a scorer, defender and rebounder. The 5'11 product of Thompson's R.D. Parker Collegiate counted 11 points and 12 rebounds against the Red River Rebels on November 12th in a big home court win and came back the following weekend with 9 points and 11 rebounds at home against the Providence Pilots.
