Big Win Confirms Second-Seed And Date With Pilots In Conference Semis

Goals from Camille Plett, Marijka Yaschyshyn and rookie striker Susanna Derksen lifted Women's Soccer to a 3-1 win versus the Red River Rebels on Sunday afternoon, confirming their place in the conference Final Four and holding off the Rebels and Providence Pilots who were threatening to leap over the Blazers in the conference standings.

In a rivalry that is only three years in the making, the MCAC Women's Soccer battle between CMU and the USB Rouges becomes more dramatic with every encounter.
Take last October, when riding a series of shutouts stretching back six-matches, from the start of the 2017 season, USB ended Lydia Balsillie's record start. The Rouges scored within 6 minutes and added another in the opening half, going on to hand the Blazers their first loss of the season. The two teams would meet again in the first round of the 2017 MCAC Championships and after CMU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening 30 minutes, the final 45 would be all USB, winning the match 2-1 as they fizzled out the Blazers Championship hopes.

Coming off a Red River Invitational tournament victory last weekend that saw the Blazers come from behind to defeat the USB Rouges in Saturday's final, Men's Volleyball now embarks on a task of greater preseason signficance when they tackle the top Ontario Colleges Athletic Conference's (OCAA) programs this weekend at the Sting Challenge at Seneca College in Markham.

The defending MCAC Women's Basketball Champions have had a few opportunities to score a major victory on behalf of their program and their Provincial Sport Conference, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, this preseason and the Blazers were finally able to take that step last weekend when they defeated the defending PacWest Conference Champions, Capilano University Blues, in North Vancouver on Saturday evening 73-65.

Congratulations to Daniel McIntyre-Ridd of Men's Soccer on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for the month of September. The third-year centre half has had a prolific month as a mainstay in the CMU starting eleven while forcing his way onto the scoresheet by adding two goals.
