Clinical Pilots Hold Off CMU In MCAC Men's Soccer Semifinal

There was no magic left in their old silk hats on Saturday afternoon as CMU were outscored 2-0 by the Providence Pilots in the 2019 MCAC Men's Soccer semifinal.

Round 1 of the 2019 Final Fours resembled 2018 in so many ways. Twelves months changed nothing as the Brandon Bobcats held down top-spot followed by the Pilots, Blazers and Rouges. In fact, after 45 minutes played on Saturday, the Providence versus CMU matchup was an utter deja of 2018; chances, shots, possession all belonging to the Blazers, but the Pilots holding the important advantage on the scoreboard.

Blazers Helplessly Watch As Brandon Takes Final Playoff Spot With Win

There was nothing CMU could do but watch on Tuesday evening as the Brandon Bobcats locked up fourth-place and the final playoff position for this weekend's MCAC Women's Soccer Championships on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats leapfrogged the Blazers on the back of a 2-1 victory over the winless Assiniboine Cougars.

The matches between the Cougars and Bobcats had attempted to be rescheduled by the teams involved on two previous occasions, but due to poor weather and playing conditions even on the rescheduled date, a final match worth double the stakes was decided on by the teams and supported by the conference.

Inspired Blazers Push for Playoffs with Critical Away Win Versus Bobcats

CMU faced a tall task on Saturday afternoon as MCAC Women's Soccer kicked off the final weekend of the regular season. Win in Brandon, and the Blazers would create a 4-point buffer between themselves and the 5th place Bobcats. Lose, and have all their playoff hopes hinging on the final match of the MCAC season; a match that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday when the Bobcats and Assiniboine Cougars will play a controversial, point-loaded finale with the winner taking 6-points. The idea behind the 90-minute match that will count as two games was accepted by the conference after the two teams involved suggested the solution to make up for the two previously scheduled games that were postponed due to rainy and snowy field conditions.
