Late Start Doesn't Slow New Women's Soccer Recruit

Tai Linklater is a fast learner. That is certainly the case when it comes to her development on the soccer field. The soon-to-be W.C. Miller graduate only started playing the 11 a-side game in Grade 11 and despite the short length of season for rural high school athletes, the defender helped her team to a fourth place finish in the 2019 Provincials and scored recognition as a Provincial All-star.

Sturgeon Heights Fedak Signs With Men's Basketball

It wil be a reunion of sorts for Jesse Fedak and CMU head coach Scott Martin, who combined as part of the Team Manitoba Provincial u17 boys program last summer. Though the 6'4 forward was unable to complete the senior year of his high school campaign with top-ranked Sturgeon Heights this season, Fedak helped his Huskies to the 2020 Zone Championship and ended his career with a selection to the 'AAAA' Boys Graduating All-star team at the Basketball Manitoba Awards earlier this month.

Jaworski Excited For New Volleyball Chapter With CMU

A graduating high school all-star and former Manitoba provincial team player, Leia Jaworski is sure to make an impact on the court when she suits up for the defending MCAC Champions this season. The versatile 5'8 left side/middle was recognized as her high school's Most Valuable Player in her Grade 12 season and added the title of Springfield Collegiate's Female Athlete of the Year prior to her graduation last summer.

Di Curzio Takes Home Top Honours From Basketball Manitoba

Joe Di Curzio added one more award to his trophy cabinet last week, when Basketball Manitoba recognized the long-time CMU head coach with the prestigous Open Category Women's/Girl's Basketball Coach of the Year at their annual awards banquet (that this year had to be delivered through social media).

The "Open" category selects the top women's or girl's basketball coach from amongst community club, high school, college and university coaches in the province. Di Curzio led CMU to their third consecutive MCAC Championship in 2020 and followed it by adding CMU's first Championships banner in the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference last February, when the Blazers came from behind to top the Providence Pilots in overtime. The Blazers joined the NIAC conference in 2016.

Anna Pyne: February's Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Anna Pyne of Women's Basketball on being selected CMU's Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for February. The 5'4 guard showed the heart of a lion as she fought back from a serious head injury that forced the rookie off the court since November 15th. Pyne returned to play on February 1st, making an immediate impact with her hustle to help the Blazers rebound against Providence on home court, 24 hours after the Pilots handed CMU their second loss of the NIAC season.
