Charleswood Soccer Product Kicks Into The MCAC With CMU

West-Winnipeg will be well represented in the CMU Blazers 2021 roster. Co-head coaches Lianna Bestvater and Cara Isaak announced the commitment of Oak Park High School and Charleswood Youth Soccer product, Jayce Boyson early this week. Boyson joins a growing list of players from the St. James, Charleswood, Lindenwoods and St. Charles areas who will link up next season in the MCAC.

Blazers head coach Don Dulder continues to strength the quality and depth of his 2021-22 Men's Volleyball roster as the program enters its first full season in the CCAA, this week announcing the commitment of highly-regarded Winman Volleyball Club middle, Tyson Nachtigall.
Winner of his club's Winman Warrior Award in 2019, Nachtigall was recognized for combining leadership and performance with the respect he shows to officials, teammates and coaches.

With their 2020-21 competitive seasons cancelled, the CMU Blazers showcased their talents in the physical and virtual classrooms durign the coronavirus pandemic, surpassing all previous year's academic successes. The varsity teams combined to showcase an eye-catching number of scholar-athletes with 74.4% acheiving an academic score of 3.0 or higher. For returning and graduating student-athletes, these scores were based on the combined semesters of Winter 2020 and Fall 2020, while for rookie athletes, academic performances were recorded from Fall 2020.

Few players make a bigger impact on the success of a program than Jessica Marx-Houndle has done at CMU for her women's basketball team. Arriving in 2016, Marx-Houndle was part of an elite recruitment class that brought the Blazers back to the top of the MCAC after a seven-year championship drought. Marx-Houndle played a big part in that win, earning MVP honours. Future years saw the 5'8 Westwood Collegiate-product lead CMU to two more Manitoba banners and even more successes south of the border, when the Blazers stepped into the NIAC conference and in just their third season, claimed their first championship in 2020.

When he steps on the court for CMU next season, David Froese will officially become the tallest player to ever suit up for the Blazers. Standing a true six-foot-eight-inches tall, the Westwood Collegiate star recently signed his letter of intent to commit to CMU for the 2021-22 NIAC and MCAC basketball seasons.
"David is a big man with lots of potential," said CMU head coach Scott Martin, who with the likes of Froese and a 2020 rookie-class that included Matt Brenton (6'5), Ezra Leano (6'4) and Jesse Fedak (6'4), has made big steps in addressing the Blazer's reputation as a rather undersized NIAC program. "He is a little raw and is still learning the game but David has so much potential! He has been well-coached, he's very dedicated and he moves really well for a player of his size. I'm really happy to have him committed."
