Markus Martens: February's Zueike Male Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Markus Martens of Men's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Zueike Male Athlete of the Month for February. The second year middle took his game to the next level this season, and became a steady presence in the starting lineup for the Blazers.

Blazers Men's Volleyball wrapped up a 16-2 season this past month and earned themselves the top seed in the MCAC heading into championship weekend to finish up February.  The team sported a perfect 4-0 record in regular season conference play in February, as well as peaked at number eight in the CCAA National Rankings in mid-February, holding that ranking until the conclusion of their schedule.  Unfortunately, the playoffs didn't go according to plan, and the team failed to defend their title, after a win in the semi-finals over the host Les Rouges setup a rematch of last year's final with the Providence Pilots.

Brooklyn De Jong: February's Zueike Female Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Brooklyn De Jong of Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for February. The third year middle was a consistent force in the Blazers' front court during the home stretch of the season.

Although the season has now wrapped up, Blazers Women's Volleyball had a strong finish to their regular season with wins in two of their final three league games, including a straight-sets victory over the eventual MCAC Champions St Boniface Les Rouges.  The team won nine sets and lost only six throughout their regular season games in February and their most veteran player and captain Brooklyn De Jong was a big part of that late-season success.

Blazers wrap up their 2022/23 seasons

With MCAC and NIAC Championships all completed, the dust has finally settled on the 2022/23 varsity seasons, which gives us reason to take a look at some highlights of the past six months.

Blazers soccer started the season in September as always, and both teams came out of the gate a bit slowly waiting until their first matchups with the Assiniboine Community College Cougars in week two to pick up points on the season.

Blazers volleyball coach inducted into the North American Indigenous Athletes Hall of Fame

Jayme Menzies, head coach of Canadian Mennonite University's (CMU) Women's Volleyball team, has been inducted into the North American Indigenous Athletes Hall of Fame.

Menzies is a decorated and celebrated individual within Manitoba sports. She is recognized for her achievements as both athlete and coach, as well as her outstanding leadership both on and off the court.

Blazers Teams Getting Set for Championships

It's another busy weekend for Blazers Athletics as championship season begins for basketball while futsal and volleyball look to finish their seasons strong.

Canadian Mennonite University's Loewen Athletic Centre will be the location for the upcoming 2022/23 MCAC Basketball Championships, which start on Friday night with semi-finals set for 6:00 and 8:00 ahead of the main event on Sunday night.
