Julia Sawatzky: November's Zueike Female Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Julia Sawatzky of Blazers Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for November. The veteran Blazer has taken her game to new heights, and with it the program, as the team made history by featuring in the CCAA National Rankings for the first time ever earlier this month.

Now in her fourth season, Sawatzky continues to develop her game and has become a dominant left side in the conference. At the halfway mark of the season, Sawatzky now sits level with her teammate Halle Meisner at second in the MCAC in kills per set (2.68), and fourth in total kills with 91. Sawatzky started the 2025/26 campaign strong, earning herself MCAC Athlete of the Week honours after the team's first full weekend of play, and two wins over the Assiniboine Cougars when she notched a team-high 25 kills over the two match span. More recently, Sawatzky was named MCAC player of the game on November 28th, when she led all attackers in the match with 11 kills against the defending champions Providence Pilots.

Congratulations to Mahamat Khamis of Blazers Men's Soccer on being selected the CMU Zueike Male Athlete of the Month for October. The rookie striker gave opposition defenders fits all month, and played a big role in the team's MCAC Championship run.

A summer signing for head coach Gode Katembo, Khamis brings a level of speed to the Blazers attack rarely seen across the MCAC, possessing the skill and athleticism to change the way the Blazers can attack, and the way their foes have to defend, opening up space for other players to join in on the action.

Halle Meisner: October's Zueike Female Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Halle Meisner of Blazers Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for October. The returning MCAC All-Conference selection has started her senior year hot, leading the team in a number of offensive statistical categories.

Meisner is coming off another MCAC All-Conference season in 2024-25 in which the Blazers once again made a Finals run at the MCAC Championships, but came up short of the ultimate goal. Back for a fifth and final season, Meisner seems as determined as ever to lift the trophy once again and help lead her team to another CCAA National Championship after getting a taste of the top college tournament in Canada in the spring of 2024 in Red Deer, Alberta. Now under head coach Craig McKenzie who was feeling out his roster in the pre-season, the Blazers have come charging out of the gate now that the regular season has begun.
