Daniel Cameron: November's Zueike Male Athlete of the Month
Congratulations to Daniel Cameron of Blazers Men's Basketball on being selected the CMU Zueike Male Athlete of the Month for November. The veteran big man started the year strong again for the Blazers this year, averaging a double-double through all games in November and this past weekend's matches to close out the first half.
A statistical machine since his rookie campaign in 2022-2023, Cameron sits among the league-leaders in many categories to start the year, including first in rebounds per game and field goal percentage, third in total rebounds, fourth in points per game, and fourth in steals and fifth in blocks on the defensive side of the ball. Of the five statted games through November and December, Cameron led all players in rebounds every single game, helping lead the team to a 5-0 record for that sample. The lone blemish for the team was their November 30 rematch with the Turtle Mountain Mighty Mikinocks.
With veterans from last season's MCAC Chamionship-winning squad, Isaiah Cole, Ezra Leano, and Matthew Brenton graduating out of the program, Cameron now finds himself as part of the core leadership group, and remains a key cog in the team's success as they look to defend their provincial title and contend for more hardware south of the border when the second half heats up in January. The 2023-24 NIAC and MCAC All-Conference honouree also got the nod in his rookie season, and went on to win CMU's Male Rookie of the Year that season, but Cameron is surely less concerned about individual hardware than helping the team on another title run as the potential for a new legacy in men's basketball begins.
The team's American side to the schedule heats up in January, with both Trinity and Oak Hills coming to town, before two final roads trips to the Minneapolis area in February to meet the Free Lutheran Conquerors, and again for the NIAC Championships prior to coming home for the MCAC Championships to close out the year.
