New Women's Volleyball Libero Adds To CMU's Deep Roster
Known for her determination her tireless work-ethic, St. Paul's Collegiate libero Ava Hamilton has signed her letter of intent to be a part of the CMU Blazer women's volleyball program, competing in the MCAC for 2021-22.
As a varsity athlete, Hamilton helped her Elie, Manitoba high school win several tournaments and zone championships during her career and was selected the Barons' Most Valuable Player on multiple occasions. She was also able to translated that indoor success to the sand, winning a beach volleyball silver medal with her partner in 2019.
"Ava moves with speed and ease that is an essential part to her position," said CMU head coach Jayme Menzies, who was recognized earlier this month with the Female Coach of the Decade Award by Manitoba Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Council. "She also clearly takes pride in the extra, less noticeable work that a libero must commit to in order for a team to be successful."
On the club circuit, Hamilton played most recently with the Red River Rebels and spent previous seasons with the Manitoba Bisons where she played on teams that regularly finished in the top five at provincial championships.
"I'm excited to bring my volleyball career to the next level while playing in the MCAC and the CCAA with CMU," said Hamilton. "I am also looking forward to the opportunity to play with my new teammates and be coached by Coach Menzies."
As members of the MCAC, CMU will enter the 2021-22 season fighting for their first opportunity to represent Manitoba at a national championships in the CCAA. The MCAC was officially accepted into the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association in 2018 and after completing two years under probationary-member status, the forthcoming season will see the winner of Manitoba move on to challenge the winners of the CCAA's five regional conferences, two wild-card teams and the hosts, which in 2022 will be PEI's Holland College.
