Rivarly Renewed at 2014 MCAC Kickoff Weekend
CMU Women's Soccer are putting the final touches on match preparation for MCAC Kickoff Weekend 2014 when the Blazers host their route 90 rivals, the Red River Rebels on Sunday at 12pm at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.
The Blazers will field a team with great leadership and athleticism starting at the back with returning defenders Breanna Heinrichs and Kyra Neufeld. The tandem are tireless runners and brave tacklers committed to keeping the ball away from goal. Joining the pair are the determined trio of April Klassen (pictured), Mackenzie Friesen and Jill Beever who will flood the center of the field, with skill in defending at attacking.
The Rebels take the field with a few preseason matches already under their belt. The squad travelled to Minnesota as part of a US College Tournament last weekend and came away with great results over three games. Returning for the Rebels are solid defender Lisa Haynes and determined-scorer Chantel Reles. Much of the Rebels hopes for their first MCAC Women's Soccer Championship in school history, will fall on the capable boots of Megan Castro. The dynamic midfielder red-shirted with the University of Manitoba Bisons in 2013 after beginning her college eligiblity in the US in 2012.
In two meetings in 2013, the Blazers and Rebels split their decisions including an exciting 1-0 September win at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex that put CMU on the front foot as the team entered their annual non-conference tournament weekend in Thunder Bay.
Adopt A Blazer forms will be available at the gate for supporters who are looking to confirm their season passes for the CMU Varsity Sport season. This year the Adopt a Blazer program includes a $100 tax receipt, tickets to all CMU home games, a copy of 2014 The Match Program, a photo of your favourite Blazer and the brand new CMU "Love The Dove" Supporters Scarf (expected to arrive in time for the September 20th home game versus Brandon University).
