Blazers Take to the Skies in Toronto

The CMU Women's and Men's Volleyball Teams get their final taste of the pre-season this weekend in the Greater Toronto Area where the women will compete in the Wannamaker Invitationa at Sheridan College in Oakville, and the men will take to the court at Seneca College in Markham for the Sting Challenge.
The women will face the Conestoga Condors and the Fleming Knights on Friday, and the Durham Lords and Mohawk Mountaineers in round-robin play before playoffs on Saturday. The men's team faces Niagara Knights and University of Ottawa Gee Gees on Friday, before finishing round-robin play against Durham on Saturday prior to playoffs. "I've found this tournament to be a great primer for the MCAC season," says Joshua Ewert, the third-year Assistant Coach on the men's team and former Blazer, "as a player I found it refreshing to get away from the typical league competition; it really forces us to bring up our level of play."

New head coach Don Dulder can hardly wait to get the preseason started for his Men's Volleyball team when they take the court tonight at Red River College against the Lakehead Thunder Wolves at 9:30pm in the Rebels Invitational.
"It is really exciting to see our team on the court," said Dulder, who recently led his Winman club team to a National Championship. "We will have a chance to try some different combinations this weekend and see how we size up against the competition."

Mackenzie Friesen's goal in the 82nd minute on Sunday afternoon's away match against the Assiniboine Cougars was a much needed boost to a Women's Soccer team that managed only a single point through the first-half of the 2014 MCAC season. Now sitting on four points, the Blazers find themselves atop the Cougars and grabbing at the tail of the third-place Brandon Bobcats who sit only one point above CMU in the standings.

A new coach and a roster that will consist of more than half a team of first-year players, the CMU Women's Volleyball team will quite literally be facing their first challenges in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference tonight when they take to the court at Providence University College in preseason tournament action.
The group has been working hard to gel together. "This weekend provides an opportunity to test ourselves against our conference as we endeavour to find the right lineup combinations and witness a few positional battles for the upcoming season," said rookie head coach Eku Malcolm.

Fresh off a convincing home preseason win against the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen on Friday night, the CMU Women's Basketball team is taking their show on the road this weekend to compete in the 2014 Alberta Basketball College and University Showcase Tournament at Edmonton's Saville Sports & Recreation Centre.
The young team showed their dominance at the Fall Festival event, taking the game 80-39. The team was led in scoring by first-year center Shannon Boyd, who dropped 17 points in her debut. "It was great to get a game under our belt before we head out on the road," said the Miles Macdonell Collegiate grad, "we are coming together as a group and are looking forward to test ourselves against the competition in Alberta."
