Kicking Off A New Copa Season In Brandon

The indoor soccer tournament that began at CMU four years ago continues to gain momentum and awareness as the Copa de la Paz enters its first leg of the 2015 festival this weekend in Brandon, Manitoba. The tournament first received mention last June in an article in Canada's foremost Soccer Magazine, Inside Soccer and even more recently on the Futsal Canada website.

First year guard Tiara Licsi scored two key baskets for CMU last Friday night as the Blazers handed the Red River Rebels their second loss of the season and first loss since week one while the Blazers climbed to 5-4 in a 72-71 overtime home court win.
CMU led most of the way, jumping out to their largest lead of nine points just before halftime. However it was Red River's Susanna Namgung who brought the Rebels back in the second half when she went 3-of-5 from downtown for an incredible 21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists, leading to fifteen second half lead changes as the rivals traded blows.

Congratulations to Jason Friesen of the Men's Volleyball Team on being selected the Papa Murphy's Take 'n' Bake Male Athlete of the Month for November. The second-year setter led his team to a record of 6-1 during the month and capped the first half of the season with a second-place finish at Western Canadians last weekend in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Congratulations to Tianna Mighty of the Women's Basketball Team on being selected the Papa Murphy's Take 'n' Bake CMU Female Athlete of the Month for November. The rookie forward helped her team to four wins during the month and was a critical part of some good overall performances during two international exhibition weekend series in November versus Dakota College of Bottineau and University of Mary.

It has been three years since the Blazers Women's Volleyball team last captured gold at the Western Canadian Volleyball Championships and the current team hope that this weekend's tournament can create a foundation of confidence for the MCAC's second half for the young team.
Ten matches into the 2014-15 MCAC season and the Blazers have yet to celebrate a victory. Their only win this season came back on October 18th over the Fleming Knights of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association while competing at the Wannamaker Invitational in Oakville.
