Rayzanna Kehler - February's Recovery Spot Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Rayzanna Kehler on being selected the Recovery Spot Female Athlete of the Month for February.

Playing in the final match of her university volleyball career, Kehler found herself at the service line in the fifth set of the 2017 MCAC Women's Volleyball Championship Final, tied 13-13 and a chance to lift her team to the their first MCAC Championship since 2010. Kehler came through, serving points 14 and 15 to raise her team to victory.

An Immediate Impact: Reeves Wins Conference Most Valuable Player Honours

Big things were expected from Women's Volleyball's Katie Reeves when she made plans last spring to transfer from the CIS's Brandon Bobcats and join the CMU Blazers. The 5'8 product of Winnipeg's MBCI has not disappointed.

Coming off a high school volleyball career where Reeves helped MBCI produce two MHSAA 'AAAA' Girls Provincial Championships and finding herself ranked as the #4 player in the Winnipeg Sun's Annual Top-10 Players Poll in her Grade 12 season, the Blazers new they were getting an attacker who could help take the close knit veteran group to new heights in the 2016-17 season.

Disappointed But Hopeful: Women's Basketball Turns Focus To NIAC

Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong for Women's Basketball on Sunday afternoon at the 2017 MCAC Championship Final hosted by the University of Winnipeg. Despite entering the tournament as the top-seed and only losing one conference game all season, CMU struggled with scoring and turnovers; two of the team's greatest strengths, and was forced to witness the Rebels raise the MCAC Championship Trophy for a sixth consecutive year.

The Streak Is Over: CMU Claims 2017 MCAC Men's Basketball Championship

CMU outscored the eight-time defending MCAC Champions 21-10 in the fourth quarter to come from behind and capture their first MCAC Championship in Men's Basketball since 2008, upsetting the Final Four #1 seed Red River Rebels, 77-68.

From the tip-off it was all CMU.  The Blazers jumped out to a 25-20 lead in the first quarter. Championship Most Valuable Player, Sam Kinsley had 9 early points and collected 10 rebounds in the first half alone, but it was his team's ability to share the basketball that gave CMU the edge.

Women's Futsal Gaining More And More Comfort With Top Spot

It was status quo for Women's Futsal again this weekend; two more matches without defeat as the squad toured through Brandon to earn four of a possible six points and remain in first-overall in the round robin portion of the MCAC's 2017 Copa de la Paz

"This was a valuable weekend for us as we were able to battle in two more tough games and escape with at least a point, " said co-head coach Lianna Bestvater, "we showed a lot of character to battle through some rough patches of play and we ended our second game with 25 minutes of the best futsal we've played all season. When things are clicking, it get us excited as coaches and we can't wait to see that level of play carry over to the next game."
