Kalyssa Wasylik: September's Zueike Female Athlete of the Month
Wednesday, October 2, 2024 @ 1:23 PM |
Congratulations to Kalyssa Wasylik of Blazers Women's Soccer on being selected the CMU Zueike Female Athlete of the Month for September. The veteran winger has made a triumphant return to the outdoor pitch this fall.
After taking the outdoor season off last autumn but returning to the squad for the indoor futsal season, Kalyssa Wasylik looks to have regained her form on the turf, using her speed and skill on the ball to give the opposition defenders fits throughout the first half of the MCAC schedule. The Blazers' leading point-getter sits just ahead of rookie teammate Sumeet Brar in the conference statistical leaders chart, both of whom have tallied two goals on the season so far. Wasylik has shown a proficiency of creating scoring chances from open play, cutting in from the wing on the dribble for a chance on goal, or creating on through balls to teammates in space.

Congratulations to Tristen Holfeld of Blazers Men's Soccer on being selected the CMU Zueike Male Athlete of the Month for September. The rookie central midfielder has had a hot start to the season patrolling the middle of the pitch and producing goal-scoring chances.
Holfeld has begun his MCAC career at a Blazing pace, now sitting near the top of the conference in a number of offensive statistical categories, including fourth in the league in goals with four, fifth in points with eight, and tops the conference in shots, proving that the offseason signing is both proficient on set pieces, and factors heavily in controlling the middle of the pitch with an ability to create his own shot that makes him a dangerous offensive weapon as well as a playmaking threat. He has factored in some big results for the Blazers, having scored the ninetieth-minute equalizer in their first league game against Providence to secure the draw, the game-winner in their 2-1 defeat of the Assiniboine Cougars in their first meeting of the season, and leveled the score this past weekend with Assiniboine, getting the ball rolling on the Blazers' comeback win.

It was the busiest week of the young 2024-25 season so far, and a fitting way to showcase our incredible coaching staffs here in Blazers Athletics, as all six varsity programs were in action, competing in 21 exhibition and MCAC league matches between Wednesday and Sunday.
The week started early with a Wednesday night clash with Les Rouges at home for Blazers Soccer. In a season full of upsets and strange results, the CMU men dropped the first of the evening matches to their cross-city counterparts in a 0-5 loss. On the women's side the Blazers had the opportunity to grab sole possession of third place in the conference standings with a win, and took full advantage in a 2-1 victory, lifting them to a 2-2 record. Kalyssa Wasylik and Sumeet Brar notched the two tallies for the home side.
Blazers soccer also finished off Week 3 of the MCAC schedule with an away date with the Pilots. With both Providence teams sitting above CMU in the standings it was going to be a tough test in Otterburne, and the results showed it, with the men taking a 1-6 loss, while the women followed with a 0-5 scoreline. Tristen Holfeld was the sole scorer on the day on the men's side as he continues his great start in his rookie campaign.
Blazers WSC Save Big Signing Wyatt for Last
Friday, August 23, 2024 @ 12:00 AM |
The CMU Women's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Natalie Wyatt for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The 2023 Glenlawn grad is excited to get back into competitive game action with CMU, and will look to backstop the Blazers throughout this year's campaign.
Joining her fellow former Glenlawn Lion, Juliana Millan, Wyatt is also transferring to CMU after a year spent studying elsewhere, but coming back to competitive soccer has proven too strong a call to ignore for the experienced keeper. While she played for Glenlawn her two varsity seasons, her extensive experience comes more from the club side of the game.

The CMU Men's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Taiwo Oshode for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The Kildonan East grad of 2019 has continued to sharpen his skills on the pitch in the MMSL here in Manitoba while beginning his post-secondary studies at the University of Manitoba.
A native of Ogun State, Nigeria, Oshode and the rest of his immediate family transitioned to Canada in 2018 in time to start his final year of high school, which he completed at Kildonan East and played his one short outdoor season as a Reiver. Since then, Oshode has been studying at the University of Manitoba in the Science program but will be transferring to the Business Program here at Canadian Mennonite University.
