Womens Basketball Sign Dakota Double - Gbadamosi and Zadro

CMU Athletics is very happy to announce the signing of two members of the Dakota Lancers, Nifemi Gbadamosi and Madison Zadro. The pair have helped their south Winnipeg high school to their current position at #6 in 'AAAA' Manitoba Girls Basketball rankings, thanks to strong performances that included a second-place finish at the Sisler tournament and a third-place result at the Pembina Trails tournament.

After a late scoring run saw CMU leave Providence with an 11-point win on Friday night, the Blazers went ice cold in the fourth quarter on Saturday, watching an 28-20 halftime lead slip away as the Pilots evened the season series at one win a-piece. The visitors outscored CMU 32-20 over the final twenty minutes, setting up what could be a complicated three-way tie-breaker in both the MCAC playoffs and the forthcoming NIAC seedings later this month.

Turn a heated ending into hot shooting - that was the game plan for CMU on Saturday night when the Blazers hosted Providence exactly 24 hours after the Pilots topped CMU by 25 points in Otterburne. The home team executed their strategy to the letter, shooting almost 50% from downtown coming out on the winning end of a 107-88 final.
The Blazers ferocious outside-game was stoked by their determined inside-game. After Seth McKenzie, Isaiah Cole opened the scoring for the hosts via dribble penetration, Kieran Baydock would run CMU to a 21-14 lead in his new role as the Blazers sixth man. Coming off the bench very early in the opening quarter after missing the previous night's encounter with the Pilots, Baydock would score 12 of his team's first 21 points and finish the game with 22-points of offensive production while adding 9 defensive rebounds to his impressive stat line. Baydock would cash in two from the free-throw line to give his team a 26-18 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Congratulations to Jana Klassen of Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Female Athlete of the Month for January. The fifth-year outside hitter led her team to a miraculous four weeks that has seen CMU move from fourth to second in the MCAC standings, riding a wave of success that has the Blazers undefeated in 6 matches this month.

Congratulations to Seth McKenzie of Men's Basketball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for January. The third-year guard helped the Blazers rebound from an 0-6 start to the 2019-20 NIAC regular season, leading CMU to four wins this month including a critical home win over the 2018 NIAC Champions, Leech Lakers where the sharpshooter drained 25 points in a 97-82 win.
