Seth McKenzie: January's Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Seth McKenzie of Men's Basketball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for January. The third-year guard helped the Blazers rebound from an 0-6 start to the 2019-20 NIAC regular season, leading CMU to four wins this month including a critical home win over the 2018 NIAC Champions, Leech Lakers where the sharpshooter drained 25 points in a 97-82 win.

CMU Athletics is very happy to announce the commitent of Oak Park's Emily Townsend for the 2020-21 Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season. The 5'7 guard is coming out of a very successful 'AAAA' girls basketball program with the Raiders, helping lead her team to a perfect high school season in 2019 that ended in a provincial banner for the west-Winnipeg high school.

CMU won their second consecutive MCAC men's volleyball match, a straight sets victory over Universite de St-Boniface to improve their conference record to 10-2 on Saturday night. Winners of their first eight league matches of 2019-20, the Blazers' fell off their mistake-free form in recent weeks, ending November with a five-set loss to the defending conference champions, Providence and then starting the New Year with a four-set loss to the Pilots on home court.

CMU Athletics is very happy to announce the commitment of Carberry Collegiate's Rachel Penner for the 2020-21 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference season. The versatile 5'10 multi-sport athlete has starred on her high school's varsity team since Grade 9 at the setter position while playing mostly right side for her club team, Cats Volleyball Club in Brandon.

Isaiah Cole and Seth McKenzie combined for 52 points on Saturday night, as CMU scored their first regular season win of the 2019-20 regular season 97-82 over the Leech Lakers.
Trailing 19-17 at the end of the first quarter, the visitors appeared to be respond with their own basket each time CMU drew even on the scoreboard. Antonio Brown had a hot hand for the Lakers, scoring a team-high 21 points with all seven made-baskets coming courtesy of the long-ball. Brown would score on 7 of 18 from beyond the arc in a game where both teams would attempt more than 40 shots from 3-point distance.
