Things did not go as planned for CMU on Thursday night, as the 3rd-ranked Blazers slid to a 105-76 defeat at the hands of the Providence Pilots in the 2019-20 MCAC Men's Basketball semifinal and Red River College.
Without the services of rookie forward and team-leading rebounder, Pacifique Jubilate who was sidelined with an ankle injury, head coach Scott Martin was forced to shake up his starting lineup that was coming off an impressive 18-point win against the Pilots less than two weeks ago. The inside absence of Jubilate proved to be an immediate concern as the Pilots took an early lead, out-rebounding CMU most obviously on the offensive glass. Providence point guard Bryant Smith was the early benefactor, driving the lane and grabbing his own rebound thee times before teammate Daniel Kilmartin finished the play to open a 12-6 lead for the Pilots; two of Kilmartin's 10 first half points.

After a late scoring run saw CMU leave Providence with an 11-point win on Friday night, the Blazers went ice cold in the fourth quarter on Saturday, watching an 28-20 halftime lead slip away as the Pilots evened the season series at one win a-piece. The visitors outscored CMU 32-20 over the final twenty minutes, setting up what could be a complicated three-way tie-breaker in both the MCAC playoffs and the forthcoming NIAC seedings later this month.

Turn a heated ending into hot shooting - that was the game plan for CMU on Saturday night when the Blazers hosted Providence exactly 24 hours after the Pilots topped CMU by 25 points in Otterburne. The home team executed their strategy to the letter, shooting almost 50% from downtown coming out on the winning end of a 107-88 final.
The Blazers ferocious outside-game was stoked by their determined inside-game. After Seth McKenzie, Isaiah Cole opened the scoring for the hosts via dribble penetration, Kieran Baydock would run CMU to a 21-14 lead in his new role as the Blazers sixth man. Coming off the bench very early in the opening quarter after missing the previous night's encounter with the Pilots, Baydock would score 12 of his team's first 21 points and finish the game with 22-points of offensive production while adding 9 defensive rebounds to his impressive stat line. Baydock would cash in two from the free-throw line to give his team a 26-18 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
