Graduate Profile: Carter Hofer, Men's Volleyball

Carter Hofer has left a significant impact on the CMU Men's Volleyball program over four years. Beyond helping the Blazers to two MCAC Championships and receiving many accolades along the way, the graduate of Linden Christian School and product of Winman Volleyball Club, has been an exemplary leader on and off the court.

Hofer has been recognized by CMU Athletics with Rookie of the Year honours (2017-18) and was twice named the Men's Volleyball Player of the Year (2018-19, 19-20). The 6'3 left side was selected to the All-Conference team (2019-20) and was named Championship MVP (2019-20) by the MCAC and finally, the CCAA recognized Hofer as a 2019-20 Academic All-Canadian and 2019-20 National Scholar Athlete.

We had a chance to catch up with the Blazer's team captain to talk about his prolific four years at CMU;

Q: What things impacted your decision when you chose to come to CMU?

CH:  I chose to come to CMU for the small class sizes and the community feel that we have on campus.

Q: What have you enjoyed most about being a student-athlete?

CH: The best part of being a student athlete was the lifelong relationships I have built with others.

Q: What is a favourite memory of your time as a Blazer?

CH: My favourite memory was coming back from a two sets to none deficit in the MCAC finals in 2020 and winning the Championship.

Q: What is the most challenging aspect of being a student-athlete?

CH: Time management was definitely tough with school, working and my sports schedule.

Q: What advice would you give to players representing CMU in the men's volleyball program next season?

CH: What you do on the court is much less important than who you are off the court.

Q: When your time as a student-athlete ends, what would you like your legacy to be?

CH: I hope I am remembered as someone who encouraged others to be their best.

Q: What does the future hold for you after graduation?

CH: I will be going into the faculty of education to become a teacher.

COACH'S REFLECTION

We asked Men's Volleyball head coach Don Dulder to share a relection on his graduating athlete;

"I know it sounds cliché, but it has truly been a pleasure to coach Carter these past  years. Athletically, Carter has been outstanding. He is an excellent passer, jump server, and attacker. Carter was our best left side attacker and go to guy in crunch time. He relished his role and wanted the ball when the game was on the line. He is a fierce competitor. In his last year, in my opinion, he was the best all-around-player in the MCAC. He was the MVP in the playoffs.

Carter is a hard worker who always gives it his all and sets an example by his work ethic. His positive leadership helped keep the entire team focused. He was always encouraging and uplifting to his teammates. His teammates and I will really miss him, but we know that good things are ahead for him in whatever avenue he choses to pursue." - Don Dulder, head coach

CMU Athletics would like to extend our congratulations to Carter Hofer for his volleyball and scholastic accomplishments during his time at CMU and to thank him for the legacy of leadership he has left on the Men's Volleyball program. The Blazers plan to recognize Carter's accomplishments more formally at the opening home match of the 2021-22 MCAC season.

Congratulations Carter!
