Blazers WSC Looking for More in the Back of the Net with Blackmore
The CMU Women's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Madeline Blackmore for the 2024-25 MCAC season. The BoniVital product and Beliveau Barracuda will add more scoring touch to the Blazers lineup on what's shaping up to be an already talent-laden squad.
A graduate of College Beliveau this past June, her Barracuda team were semi-finalists in the SCAC zone of MHSAA's "AAA" division this past outdoor high school season. The team's striker and captain led the charge for Beliveau, showcasing her dedicated team leadership and aggressive offensive play.
A part of the BoniVital programs since the age of three, her rec side were city champions of the indoor season this past March, and more recently were finalists in the U17/U18 category for outdoor, which wrapped up last month. Winners of the Golden Boy indoor tournament, and finalsists in the Boston Pizza outdoor tournament, Blackmore has seen plenty of high-intensity, and big-game moments and has shown an ability to rise to the occasion. Named a player of the game in the last three championship finals, Blackmore featured in goal for a recent playoff run and received the Golden Glove award for her goalkeeping performances, showing that her adept offensive touch could also help her shutdown the opposition's best scoring chances.
As a regular callup to the premier program, Blackmore has previously been coached by the new Blazers' bench boss, Jason Moist, as well as played alongside incoming defender Noel Wiebe, and will look to continue that chemistry this upcoming season. "Madeline is an exciting signing for us," notes Moist about his latest signing, as he continues to mold the CMU program into what he hopes will be a perennial contender in the MCAC. "A product of the BoniVital system, she is a dynamic player who can play with both feet and is great at taking set pieces. Overall a strong attacking player with a goal scorer's instinct, I am very excited to have her join us at CMU."
Chemistry on the pitch isn't the only thing Blackmore will be looking for this season, as she plans to pursue studies in science while at CMU. She is particularly excited about getting to know a new group of players as she continues her soccer journey at the post-secondary level. Her first chance at hitting the pitch will be on the Blazers' pre-season trip to Red Deer, Alberta, where they are scheduled to face the hosts, as well as Medicine Hat college of the competitive Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference.
Blazers Women's Soccer last hoisted the provincial trophy in the fall of 2018, and will look to take another step towards capturing another title this coming season. The winner of the Manitoba Collegiate Athletics Conference earns the right to represent the province at the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) National Championships at the conclusion of the outdoor season, which the Blazers look to accomplish now entering the fourth year that the MCAC has been fully included in the Canada-wide conference. Prior to season play kicking off, the Blazers soccer teams will be heading West once again to Red Deer Polytech for pre-season tilts with some of the top sides in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.
