Blazers WBB Flush with Versatile Talent after Addition of Royal
The CMU Women's Basketball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Hannah Grobb for the 2023-24 MCAC and NIAC seasons. The Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School captain will be a versatile combo forward/guard addition to the Blazers roster for the coming year.
The Selkirk, Manitoba native will be trading her Selkirk Royal blue for the green and gold of the Blazers this upcoming season after being a standout on her high school squad for the past two varsity seasons. While the team missed out on the highly competitive MHSAA "AAAA" Provincial Championships, her squad featured at three tournaments this season, including the Crocus Plains Java Jam in Brandon, as well as a third place finish at their home "Royal Rumble Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament," and a semi-finals appearance at the Tec Voc Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament. Grobb received tournament MVP honours at the latter two, which attests to the impact she had on her team both on the court and from a leadership perspective. Never one to step down from a challenge, Grobb featured at several different positions throughout her high school career, with the ability to slot in at point or shooting guard with appearances as a small forward as well.
Grobb has suited up most recently for Team Mayhem during the club season, where she has had to expand her skillset even further, normally playing as a power forward, which has helped her develop her game on the boards. The team placed second at last year's spring tournament in Saskatoon, earning the newest Blazer some big-game experience in the process, which will certainly be an asset heading into the 2023-24 season at CMU, as the team has most recently come off a finals appearance at the 2023 NIAC Championship, as well as captured their fifth-straight MCAC Championship on home court this past February.
With so much versatility asked of her on the court, Grobb has certainly had to be a student of the game off the court, and looks forward to developing even more as an overall player under CMU's women's basketball head coach Joe DiCurzio, who recognizes her potential and fit in his program. "Hannah is a very welcome addition to our team," states DiCurzio, who is entering his eleventh season with the program. "She is known as an amazing leader who leads by example and gives her best effort at all times on and off the court. Hannah is a terrific rebounder and she has the ability to play inside or outside, which adds a level of versatility that every coach covets in their players." Grobb is excited to continue playing basketball at CMU because the school has values and programs that she wants to pursue in addition to athletics as she works towards a degree that leads her into an education program.
With the 2023-23 season now complete, the Blazers will soon start gearing up for next year when they will look to defend their MCAC title and put together another fantastic run South of the border after the team were finalists this year in their first season back in the NIAC since their 2020 Championship win.
