Men's Volleyball Brings in the Best of Beausejour

Men's Volleyball Brings in the Best of Beausejour

The CMU Men's Volleyball program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Mika Feilberg for the 2022-23 MCAC season. The Ecole Edward Schreyer and 204 Club Volleyball product comes to the program looking to make an instant impact with the team.

Feilberg comes to CMU as a bit of a 'diamond in the rough,' a potential star player with plenty of upside that flew under the radar during his high school years coming from Beasejour, and was also hampered by a broken arm in January that limited his club touches this last season until later in the season when the team headed to Edmonton for 18U Nationals.

A starting left side throughout his high school career with his hometown Edward Schreyer Barons, Feilberg lifted the level of his team to MHSAA AAA Provincial Championships in both his grade ten and grade twelve seasons, with the grade eleven season lost to COVID-19.  Despite the Barons not typically being known as a volleyball powerhouse, Feilberg and his team were finalists in the provincials both those years, and he received Provincials All-Star recognition both in his final year of junior varsity in 2019, and for his efforts in the most recent 2021 championships, for which he was also named a Graduating All-Star.  In his grade ten season Feilberg also age-advanced to train and play with the varsity squad ahead of their provincials appearance that season.

Coming from a rural school, Feilberg developed his athleticism participating in many different sports, which certainly came in handy during his club career, where he juggled time playing both left side and right side first with the Selkirk Royals Club for 15U, then with Tsunami for 16U, and finally with 204 Cardinal for 17U before his final season playing with the top 204 Gold for 18U.  Feilberg broke his left arm this past January, which made passing as a left side nearly impossible, so he factored only on the right side this past season when his 204 Gold club placed third at provincials before heading to Edmonton for the Volleyball Canada Nationals, where the team placed fifth in tier two of the top division, good for a 13th overall placing in the country.

Blazers men's volleyball head coach Don Dulder is ecstatic to have Feilberg join the team for the upcoming season stating "Mika is the diamond in the rough that I believe will be a top notch player in the MCAC."  Dulder continued praising the skills and character of his newest addition, noting "at 6'4" he is a great height for left side or right side, of which he can play both.  He is an excellent attacker and has an extremely good jump serve.  He clearly has a passion for the game and a strong desire to improve and will be another character player that is a welcome addition to our team."

Somewhat familiar with CMU already, as his 204 Club practices out of the Loewen Athletic Centre, Feilberg is excited to jump into playing in a good league with a good atmosphere, all while receiving great schooling at the university.

This past March CMU became the first ever representatives of Manitoba and the MCAC in men's volleyball at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship, and will look to build on their successes at home to bring their game to the national stage again in 2023.  The 2022-23 MCAC season is set to begin in late October, after the team heads West to Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, and Capilano University in North Vancouver where they will see PacWest competition in early October.
