2025/26 Men's Soccer Roster Preview

Blazers men's soccer has been one of the more active programs this off-season, with recruiting for the 2025/26 squad beginning back in November, and it continued to add pieces throughout the winter and spring. The Blazers were back in the MCAC playoffs this past October, and are hoping to compete for the MCAC title once again, last captured by CMU in 2018.

Pereira embraces a team member after winning the 2020 MCAC Futsal Championship

Blazers Men's Soccer & Futsal Head Coach Anderson Pereira Passes on the Torch

Blazers Men's Soccer and Futsal Head Coach Anderson Pereira has made the tough decision to step back from the team and say his farewells after seven years at the helm of the program.

An instant success with the team, Pereira captured the program's first and only soccer title of the MCAC era in his first season in 2018, a special moment as both men's and women's Blazers squads came out on top that year. A noted futsal aficionado, Pereira's teams have been perennial contenders in the Copa de la Paz Futsal Championships, taking home the title most recently in 2020, and featuring in the finals several times during his tenure.

Blazers Men's Soccer Bring Finesse to its Back Line for 2024

Blazers Men's Soccer Bring Finesse to its Back Line for 2024

The CMU Men's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Aiden Edwards for the 2024/25 MCAC season. The Garden City Collegiate product has the opportunity to make a big impact on the Blazers' back line with a mature game sense and touch not often seen in a rookie.

Edwards comes to CMU from Garden City, where he featured as captain of the Gophers soccer squad in both of his varsity seasons with his school team. Most recently, his Garden City boys indoor team were champions of the first half of the WYSA high school division II league, a win which promoted them up to the top division for the just completed second half. A multi-sport athlete, Edwards also stars as the Gophers' goalkeeper on the varsity handball team, which gives him a different perspective on shutting down the opposition's scoring chances. In addition, as an athlete on the school's track and field team competing in the sprint disciplines, he is able to hone his skills for the pitch making recovery runs and closing out to defend his opposition's attacks. With so many impact roles on his high school teams, it's no wonder Edwards was named the school's Athlete of the Month this past December.

Blazers Men's Soccer Open the 2024/25 Recruiting Class with Impact Player Holfeld

The CMU Men's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Tristen Holfeld for the 2024/25 MCAC season. The Dakota Collegiate product will bring athleticism and a passion for the game in the centre of the Blazers' lineup this upcoming fall.

The team will look to Holfeld to hold down the middle of the pitch as a central midfielder once the next MCAC season gets underway, especially after reigning All-Conference selection and CCAA All-Canadian Victor Hugo Gomes de Abreu graduates this spring and leaves a hole in the lineup. It will be big shoes to fill for the 5'11" Winnipeg native, but he might just have enough Brazilian in him to do the job, as an honourary member of Team Brazil in the All Nations tournament this past holiday season, which he went on to win alongside coaches Anderson Pereira and Kairus Soares de Lima.

Blazers Men's Soccer Bolster Backline with Byfield

The CMU Men's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Daunte Byfield for the 2023-24 MCAC season. The Linden Christian product will bring athleticism and a passion for the game to the Blazers' backline beginning this fall.

One look at the 5'11" Byfield's powerful frame and it becomes immediately apparent why the budding sport star has seen so much success in a wide range of sports over the last few years.  Never one to stick to a single athletic dicipline, Byfield has cultivated an all-around athlete persona that suggests a rare competitive drive and game sense allowing him to make an impact on many levels.  Coming out of the MHSAA "AAA" Linden Christian School has allowed Byfield to broaden his athletic endeavours, featuring prominently on a number of their varsity teams.  He has anchored the back line of the Wings' varsity soccer team since 2021, helping the team to a Zone 12 Championship in 2021, as well as a "AAAA" Provincials consolation finals appearance last high school season.  He is looking to lead the team as a co-captain in the upcoming spring season, which begins in a few weeks' time.
