New Indigenous Mentor Coach Initiative Headlines CMU's 2020-21 Assistants

Charisse Cyr will be joining the CMU women's volleyball coaching staff this fall as part of an Indigenous coach mentoring partnership with the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Council (MASRC) and Agoojin Volleyball Club. Cyr is a member of Cote First Nation and works as an Intervention Support Facilitator with the Manitoba First Nation School System. She played as a setter at the University of Winnipeg while completing her first degree and proceeded to complete a Masters in Education at Brandon University.

"I am really excited to work with Jayme (Menzies) more closely this year," said Cyr. "I love her philosophy and I look forward to seeing her in action daily. I'm very happy for the opportunity to lend my experience to the program and I am very interested to get better connected with the caliber of play in the MCAC and the CCAA."

Cyr also works on the coaching staff of Team Manitoba for the 2021 Canada Summer Games as part of a new Aboriginal Apprentice program through Coaching Canada and has served on the executive for the Winnipeg Women's Volleyball League since 2013.
