Seth McKenzie: January's Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Seth McKenzie of Men's Basketball on being selected the CMU Lionheart Sports Male Athlete of the Month for January. The third-year guard helped the Blazers rebound from an 0-6 start to the 2019-20 NIAC regular season, leading CMU to four wins this month including a critical home win over the 2018 NIAC Champions, Leech Lakers where the sharpshooter drained 25 points in a 97-82 win.

"As the most senior player on the team, 'Pops' has led by example this month, hitting big shots for us in important games and showing the kind of commitment that it takes to succeed at this level," said first-year CMU head coach Scott Martin. "Seth hit 23 threes in his last 5 games and has proven that he is one of the top three-point shooters in the league."

McKenzie was the winner of the 2019 NIAC three-point contest that took place during Championship weekend in Sisseton, South Dakota last February. This month the sharpshooter scored nine long-balls in two games. The first came in their January 3rd tournament game in Thief River Falls versus the Concordia Cobbers. The second time McKenzie scored 9 threes came January 26th in a 101-67 win over NIAC newcomers Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College, a game where the CMU guard led his team with 31 points.

With the NIAC regular season now closed for the men's basketball team, the Blazers will host the USB Rouges in exhibition action on Friday night as they prepare themselves for an MCAC semifinal date with the Providence Pilots at Red River College on February 13th. The Blazers and Pilots split their two regular season meetings last weekend with both teams winning on home court.
